EAGLE WIRELESS RECEIVES $12.6 MILLION
PURCHASE ORDER FROM UTILITY AUTOMATION
HOUSTON, TX -- February 9, 1999: Eagle Wireless International, Inc. (OTC BB: EGLW) announced today that it has entered into an agreement to provide Utility Automation, Inc. with wireless residential water meters and wireless communication backups for home security systems. The three year agreement is valued at $12,625,000 and is subject to the successful completion of a 90 day field trial.
The field trial is scheduled to commence prior to May 1, 1999, and will involve the deployment of 50 wireless water meters and 50 security transmitters. Upon successful completion of the field trial, Utility Automation will provide Eagle a definitive delivery schedule for the remainder of the purchase order.
Monthly airtime service for the wireless water meters and home security systems will be provided under a separate agreement between Utility Automation, Affordable Telecommunications Systems, Inc., and Link-Two Communications, Inc. Affordable Telecommunications is the Houston-based retailer of wireless messaging services provided by Link-Two, an Eagle customer.
Eagle President and CEO Dr. H. Dean Cubley stated, “I am pleased to report this contract with Utility Automation, which should help bolster the Company's revenues while diversifying our product offerings. Our relationship with Utility Automation will also provide the possibility to realize additional service revenues through the installation of the water meter devices.”
The Company's wireless water meter periodically emits a pulse of spread spectrum energy containing the meter's unique serial number and current usage reading. This signal is received by the Link-Two network and relayed to a central point where it is grouped with other meter readings and made available to the utility company.
Eagle's wireless communication backup for home security systems provides a secondary signal from a monitored alarm system to alert the central station that an alarm has been tripped. This provides early notification in the event a phone line is down, cut, or unavailable.
