Arrogant, self-satisfied, obese, uneducated, undisciplined, gullible slobs and TV addicts prone to violence. More and more the average American is morphing from self-reliance to Homer Simpson. We needlessly tick off people all over the globe for dubious reasons every few years, display our fear and immaturity on the subject of sex. For a peace loving, educated wealthy people we sure like to go to war a lot and spend out money foolishly. Clinton is not some alien being, he is a reflection of what we have become. How did this happen? Is this the Fall of Rome II?
Honestly, what would you think of us if you grew up elsewhere? Not much, I think. That doesn't mean you wouldn't want to come here but that's a different issue, one of opportunity, not national character. I highly recommend the film, Suburbia, for a cogent examination of the issues separating foreigners vs. spoiled Americans.
We're throwing it all away. I sense it keenly. The state of the stock market is really beside the point.
PS. I don't think much of the French either. At least we know how to bathe! And the English lost my respect after the Diana funeral.
Now the Swiss seem to be doing things right. Stay the hell out of conflicts and chill out. |
