CAIS Internet plays with jacks. Plugged into phone lines in apartments and hotels, the jacks are equipped with patented OverVoice technology that creates local area networks (LANs), allowing Internet connections for multiple dwellers. Users can chat on the phone and the Internet at the same time. CAIS has OverVoice connections in about 1,900 apartments and 1,900 hotel rooms and an agreement for a nationwide rollout with Hilton. CAIS also markets digital subscriber line service (high-speed Internet access over phone lines) with Covad Communications and Bell Atlantic (mainly in Washington, DC), as well as dedicated access service to Internet service providers and Web site hosting.
