Dear fellow investors,

on this forum I invite all people to discuss all sorts of Asian topics, especially economic and political questions and developments in the respective countries, including India and Japan.

But we also want to learn about Asian culture and business culture, how things "work" in Asia, the "Asian way" of doing things, which I presume may be quite differently at times than American or European attitudes.

To this regard, I especially invite fellow investors from Asia or people who have close private or business relationships to Asia to visit and post on this thread and contribute to the mutual goal of better understanding Asia and it's people.

By understanding Asian countries more profoundly, we will be in a better position to anticipate future developments in this exciting region, spot trends early, and, hopefully, develop smart investment ideas and discover interesting stock plays (Asian, U.S., Europeans or others) for profiting from the new things we learn.

We want to be as close close to the economic, social and political beat as possible.

Ideally, we want to hear first hand anecdotal reports, for example how crowded the shopping malls are and which the hot items are that Asian consumers are buying. We want to know how sales of refrigerators are progressing and how new cars sales are going, and we look forward to when the first Porsche roams the streets of Bejing.

But we also want to learn when schoolchildren are required to learn computer skills or when tax rules change that may influence spending or investment patterns. We want to hear about business conditions and possibly about capital spending plans of big coporations. But we also find interest in hearing when a relative or a friend feels economically secure enough that he is planning to buy a new big ticket item like a house or a car.

If there are people how have recently returned from tourist travels or business trips, we welcome their brief visit notes or learn about interesting observations they made.

If nothing else, we can post news articles and interesting links to Asian Internet resources.

Can we get this thread going?

Greetings,
Thomas Haegin
