Like any Apple App, it has to be done correctly. Lots of angst if such an App has too-permissive weakness or fails when it should not.

Ideally, IMHO, it should work just as does the hardware 'ON' button (ie- instead of the 'ON' button), and if that fails sometimes, the owner (or anyone else she designates) can still log on with password as now.
