It is my understanding that one should always have at least a few bites of the protein in a meal. I don't recall all the details but the idea is that it sends a different signal to the metabolic system than starting with carbs. I adopted it because it's supposed to help with the feeling of satisfaction and obviate cravings. I've been doing this for years and it seems to work for me. I'll eat a cube of my kabob, then hit the veggie sides, then finish off the kabob. FWIW.
