You forgot to mention the re-enlistment bonuses. My son who is only 23 just got a 45K bonus to re-enlist for 4 years. Of course Ole Dad gets to invest that money for him.

Some officers in the nuclear energy field are offered 100K bonuses to re-enlist.

If someone wants to go into the nuclear energy field, the Navy offers a 15K bonus just to enlist! Just sign up and pass the school and you get 15K. That doesn't count the re-enlistment bonus down the road.

You should see the living quarters for the junior enlisted. Apartments for two with private baths. Apartments!

When I was in the Marine Corps, we had 20 commodes lined up with no stalls and 40-50 people living in the same barracks. You had to do your personal toilet duties in front of everyone.

Life in the military is a lot better than when I was in. Especially for the Navy and Air Force. If I could do it over again, I'd go Navy and that's what I recommend to anyone interested in joining the military.

These guys go everywhere. I check out one of their MySpace pages and you see their pictures of the places they have visited.

This is us partying in Japan.
This is us partying in Korea.
This is us partying in Saipan.
This is us partying in Guam.
This is us partying in Singapore.
This is us partying in Malaysia.
This is us partying in Cambodia.
This is us partying in Hong Kong.

The list goes on and on.

It's a good life in the Navy and Air Force these days both economically and with regard to standard of living. I think they earned it.
