koan, I believe you're right. It seems that mankind only learns the hard lessons for a generation or two. Then, it becomes history, its meaning and relevance forgotten.

As a species we're doin' 90 miles an hour down a dead-end street.

Someone has to talk about the 800 lb gorilla in the room i.e. the statistical potential for human annilation e.g. tryanny, nuclear war, global warming, etc.

The statisitcal probabilities of that chit happening are high. I have seen the probability worked out for nuclear war and global warming.

And they are scary equations!!

As well, the smart computer geek kids have a word for not living out a full life.

We cann't have people running countries who not understand those statistics, any more than we can have the local machinists doing brain surgery.

The worst problem is the anti intellectual atmosphere that was created in the last 30 years. JFK started us on a journey of thinking before he was cut down.

Then the neo cons took us on a journey of ignorance and Palin and Rush and the Republcians in general want to keep us there.
