Gentlemen, In the late 70s I was part of the effort to commercialize production of oil from oil shale - meaning kerogen - not Bakken type production. Trust me - I simply do not see that the nation will ever ever see a large oil shale industry. The costs were huge then - with water being a particular challenge. 40 years later it is not any easier.

If oil from kerogen is to be produced IMO it will require new technology to enable insitu production. Efforts to do that in the 70s by I believe Oxy never made it.

When some writer tries to talk about huge US reserves based on kerogen - IMO the writer simply does not know what they are talking about.

Bob

GAO: Recoverable Oil in Colorado, Utah, Wyoming 'About Equal to Entire World’s Proven Oil Reserves'

Here we go again. It ain't oil shale, it is immature kerogen which is practically useless and has been proven uneconomic several times.
