The tactics of speculation have been known for decades, if not centuries.

As far as Qualcomm's buying goes, you should remember that they transact their buying business through the selling of puts to the frightened. Those actions only indirectly affect the stock market but likely most impact those trying to close out previously purchased put positions. Although, there is also just as likely some wrinkle within the derivatives system that permits both "put selling" parties to interact with the market without directly bothering each other.

Isn't the camouflage of intent one of the real secrets behind derivatives trading? Now don't forget, one only needs camouflage within the stock market to only last for a brief period of time. Do you remember this "brilliant" trade that lot's of retail folk didn't find about until it was way too late? I guess to a trader that's just an OK part of the game though.

The market today is overly complicated. That's why we now have computers doing the work of those who were once known as stock operators. It takes much less time and effort to replicate the function of a computer than that of a warm breathing non emotional body.
