MGIC, very interesting company... I've used their software to develop several "client/server" applications. In the words of many "magic" user/developers, "love the product, hate the company". It is the BEST/FASTEST client/server app. tool I have ever seen! MGIC 9.+ is designed for INET apps. and from what I've seen works very well!
I have a real problem with this since it does not support the VAX/ALPHA RMS file structure. VERY BIG in Europe and the far east. Slowly coming into U.S. They seem to be following the old IBM strategy of hands on into aiding the customer, (albeit at a price - which is fine) re: application dev.
"Writing "code" requires a "different mind set" (at least to an old COBOL programmer like myself, but once you learn the "rules" it's a piece of cake! Example: On the user group (magic-sw.com), a user of another software dev. tool had the AUDICITY to BRAG the that this app. he/she had developed took only 3 /12 hours. Magic group took this as a challenge and did the the same app. in 15 minutes!
Know a lttle bit about MGIC... Bought @ $5 (long ago) sold @ 12.25, "bleep"! Bought back in @65 . Watched it hit +80. Sold, Bought back in after the split @ 21. Still holding @ $21 and bought back in @ 11+
Bottom Line - Great software, wait long term, Also check on the (now) parent company (FORTY - nasdac) |
