The newsgroups are the best source for this type of information. I did a search and came up with two threads about using the 4900 as a modem. If these don't work, just start searching around.

If you are unable to send email from Outlook using your normal settings, it's because the smtp server that you specify in outlook will not send mail unless it can determine that you are sending from an approved domain name. In other words, the smtp server is ISP-specific. When you connect with your sprint phone, you are using sprint as your ISP. Unless you have access to an open-relay smtp server, your best option is to configure outlook to send your sprint mail using the sprint smtp server, which is smtp.sprintpcs.com. The SMTP requires authentication, so you should set it to log in with username@sprintpcs.com and your vision password. I don't use outlook, so i can't be more specific about where to include this setting. The ability to send email is definitely not blocked.
PM me if you have trouble with this.
