The next logical step will be to replace players with programmable robots using all that data and the next generation of all stars will never set foot on the field, they will be sitting at desks constantly changing/revising the programs of the "players" on the field to act/react to real time data.


Sounds like fun? Not so much, but maybe this generation of couch lizards with oversized thumbs will find employment after all... <g/ng>

I don't get the whole "framing the pitch" argument. I've umpired behind the plate. From that vantage point you form an opinion as you see the ball cross the plate. You don't at all look at where the catcher's mitt ended up. I suppose a catcher that moves his mitt could create an illusion that alters your perception, but I doubt it. The folks that get fooled are usually the ones watching via the center field camera on TV.
