About the same happens here in Mexico.
Bought a G3 266 mhz 64mb Ram Desktop plus a Sony 17" monitor for
about $3,300 plus 15% value added tax from the local Mac Zone.
By the way, I ordered a couple more and they are taking like 1-2 weeks to supply. There must be some demand.
