<Telling "the truth" as you see it is not a strategy that serves any purpose> I think it was one of many options -- and I am inclined to believe (despite a mountain of evidence to the contrary) that the American people would have preferred to hear the truth. Yes, I know what that would look like -- but my sense is that the US was ready for change -- the vast majority of people in the center of US politics are NOT so easily swayed by the tail of a yapping dog. Obama is smart and articulate -- something we had not seen for a while. But those qualities got lost in the farce of loud-mouthed semi-professional hecklers in 'town hall meetings'. What the anti-reform crowd learned from this is that with enough misinformation and volume, you can get Obama to hide under his desk. Well, perhaps he is out from under the desk now, but the damage is done to the momentum he had last year.
