"which is usually a strategy to offset large capital gains"

There are a lot of folks who took profits in the run up in March, and subsequently when the market bounced. Then there might be a profit or two on the short side that needs to be offset. -g- I've heard there are a number of mufus that will be declaring hefty capital gains to their shareholders despite the fact that their NAV is negative for the year.

Regards,

Barb

Don't forget a lot of profits from late 1999 that were carried over to January 2000 to push back the tax payable date by 12 months. I will take all the losses I can this year to cut down the substantial carry over profits from 1999.
