Any hint of more Atlivec-software coming? Still just Photoshop 5.5 and MP3-stuff? Odd. Altivec is primarily a "data-pump" engine. It only makes sense if you have a huge amount of data to push through it. That's why you see it being used for high-resolution graphic image manipulation (Photoshop) and sound (MP3). It'll also be useful for Quicktime and video (Final Cut Pro 1.2 is Altivec-enabled and is about 2x as fast on a G4 as on a G3). The latest RC5 encryption cracking program runs about 3 times as fast in its G4 engine as it does on a G3. But don't expect to see "Microsoft Word w/Altivec" any time because it just doesn't make sense. This is why there are many of us who would actually be far happier with a 700-750MGz G3 rather than a 500MHz G4 because for most of the tasks you do in an everyday office (word processing, web browsing, email etc), a G4 is no faster than a G3.
