This part bears repeating and emphasis:

"Navigation and pointing capabilities have become a necessity rather than an option for mobile combat troops," said Martin Kits van Heyningen, KVH president and CEO. "

As a result, demand for our TACNAV tactical navigation systems is increasing to keep pace with military fleet modernization in the U.S. and other countries. We expect the demand for all TACNAV products to continue escalating as military upgrades gather momentum."

If the revenue flow is consistent, this contract provides $850,000 per quarter, and $3,400,000 per year.

Even more significant:

TACNAV TLS is being tested as a KEY COMPONENT of the US Army's task force XXI Battle Command brigade and Below.

For those of you who don't understand mil speak, Brigade and below means all field deployable vehicles in the tactical service, this is where the unit volume scales up!

If the TACNAV iterations are accepted into the digital battlefield system as being forecast, almost all vehicles would need to have a system.

It also says that it provides redundancy against GPS failure another key point. Because you just cant forecast what might happen in the satellite realm, too many question marks about space threats.

I wrote I/R and asked a few questions regarding this Press Release

newsalert.com

Here are the replies:

"Such services with broadband capabilities will be to our advantage as they are
introduced and associated technologies advance. The service they are offering is for fixed access only, not mobile. You will always need a tracking antenna for mobile access."

Alice

"Our two-way patent covers only the U.S."

Alice

I also asked if the revenue flow from the new TACNAV contract was likely to be lumpy or fairly consistent. Here is her reply:

"Revenues are expected to be fairly evenly distributed over the 5 years of the contract."

Alice

*****************

OK, so each quarter is around $850,000 from this contract. Figure probably a ramp up in Q3, so let's say $500,000 revenues in Q3.

Then there is the FOG repeat order they received in April for $1.2 million over "several quarters" (figure 6 quarters or $200,000/quarter?).

Add those two together and it is over $1 million/quarter revenue at least through 2001.

Yup. But a $ is a $ is a $. How about one of those 7 layer cakes with the frosting on each layer?

I don't care which of the areas drives KVH to positive earnings, just so they get there soon. Once there, as you know, further growth increases earnings quickly, as all the overhead costs have already been covered.

Does anyone have an idea how their 2 years of losses affect taxes going forward when earnings turn positive again?

Interesting happenings in the world of satellite comm.:

Message 13920436

GEO for downlink and LEO for uplink. Wouldn't this combination put our interactive on the front burner rather than the back?

Bookmark the following URL and read like a religion.

spacedaily.com

There are very good articles everyday here, the research from back reports is organized by area to the left.

Required reading for good DD on emerging opportunities.

Nice find Dvdw - although I do believe there is a link in my consolidated links in the KVHI SI profile that comes up when you click on this thread. <g>

Well, I see I went one level down. I'll correct that soon, as I am going to ask David James (the creator of this thread) to update the profile again with a few more links.

There is a whole lot of DARPA stuff here and much of the work done under these contracts is Foundation stuff for commercial applications. Where else can you learn that SUGAR molecules are floating around in Space clouds!

Lots of new material science stuff all foundation for new economy, too often folks miss the importance of Material sciences when putting together their portfolios, everyone is focused on PC and telecom, some of my best ideas and investments are in new materials.

David: Every once in a while someone on SI provides a link that hits many of my buttons at once; you did. Will use site for photoart with MetaCreation Bryce 4.0 (landscapes), science updates and etc.,etc.

Never did thank you for turning me on to KVHI re: OBV ((Oh yes, you too, DWH <g>. Excellent KVHI compendious URLs; you continuously exceed my expectations of DD.) (Even bought 100 shares of Enchira to stay in the loop)).

Very busy,

Ron
