Hi SI - good to hear from you. I agree with you. Judging from the company bio and history, it should at least have enough contracts from the old lines to keep it going. So everything else is extra. Of course, I reckon some of its potentials are now being price into the stock, but I think it is in the 2nd inning at most :).

I actually see beyond conversion van. Considering now parents are outfitting mini vans - and who knows, maybe SUVs soon - with VCRs as hi tech child pacifiers :), I see a good chance of scaling up. Another angle is that of the navigational system. Before I took the position - albeit a bit too early - I also noticed that Mr Trimble has also taken a board seat. I don't have TRMB, but I think the synergy of these companies can be quite a potent brew!

The only unknown is that I see KVH is the initial of the founder, who is 83 [?] The 2nd in command seems to be a relative. So, this can be a good thing as much as it can be an obstacle for us investors.

best, Bosco

Thanks for the post Bosco, the Trimble Navigation appointment to the board is important, thanks for mentioning this.

Heres another article on the MS Gilat deal:
multichannel.com

Article mentions another 2 way vendor, we need to monitor these for certain.

Another area is RF semiconductor Power amplifiers for the eq. this could be huge, we need to find the RF power amplifier suppliers specializing in this segment.RFMD is one but there are many new guys with specialty tech to fit the bill.

The entry or targeting of 10 million base by MS is not to be believed IMO. There is something else going on, and perhaps we have the answer.MS likes scale, they don't mess with small markets this trial is but the first volley in a snipers paradise. Keep your eyes open.

I agree with Bosco that we are in early, the transition will take time to play out we need to monitor 13G filings on EDGAR. Every day though we are closer to LT capital gain status.

Interesting statistical post I found while browsing other threads.

Trends are important for all tech investors to be aware of.

While Mobile Internet is not even mentioned, anyone should be able to see that a world getting increasingly hooked on Internet access at home and work is going to want it while on the move or while camping too.

Also this post, which I have not thoroughly reviewed yet. Anyone here care to comment on this?

I also found this post, which mentions Wi-Lan and CSCO wireless in the middle of the post. Is this Wi-Lan technology competition here just in urban areas or what?

My guess is that the sysop shut down the site over the long weekend as a precaution [of getting hacked!]

Datron Rejects Unfounded Charges in KVH Lawsuit

February 22, 2000 03:52 PM
VISTA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 22, 2000--Datron Systems Inc. DTSI today announced it has been advised that a lawsuit has reportedly been filed against its wholly owned subsidiary, Datron/Transco Inc., by a competitor in the mobile satellite communications market.

The lawsuit, apparently filed by KVH Industries KVHI of Middletown, Rhode Island, alleges patent infringement and breach of contract. Datron believes the lawsuit is utterly without merit and the company intends to mount a vigorous defense.

David A. Derby, chairman, president and chief executive officer, stated, "To date, Datron has not been served with this lawsuit; however, we have received a 'courtesy' copy of the complaint from the plaintiff's attorneys. It is regrettable that a full eight days have passed since KVH twice announced its baseless charges in the press. We have to question the motives of a competitor who apparently is more concerned with a press announcement than with pursuing the legal merits of its case. Nevertheless, we can assure our stockholders, customers and other stakeholders that we will aggressively defend the company against the plaintiff's unfounded charges."

This news release may contain "forward-looking statements" as defined in the Private Securities Litigation Reform Act of 1995. A variety of factors could cause the Company's actual results to differ from the anticipated results expressed in such forward-looking statements. These include, among others, uncertainties stemming from the dependence of the Company on foreign sales and on large orders from a relatively small number of customers, risks relating to the decline in the company's traditional defense business and the company's efforts to develop and market consumer products, lack of timely development or customer acceptance of new products, changes in products and services offered by satellite service providers and their related suppliers and the ability of the company to negotiate satisfactory business relationships with those providers and suppliers, worldwide economic downturns and currency devaluations, restrictions imposed by the U.S. government on the export of company products, and the impact of competition. Investors are referred to the company's periodic reports under the Securities Exchange Act of 1934, including without limitation the Investment Considerations set forth in the company's Annual Report on Form 10-K.

Datron Systems provides products and services addressing the needs of emerging satellite and radio communication markets.

Correct me if I am wrong but GMH satellite is only a one way ticket isnt it?

Hughes is going with NSATF which is using the KA band and is two way.
