OK, everybody. I got a copy of the Red Chip Review report on KVHI. Basically, they started coverage on June 17, 1997 with a 'B' rating and set a 1-year price target of $13 on the stock. If you've done the research, this report contains no newsflashes. However, the tone is very positive. In the same issue, Datron Systems, one of KVHI's competitors, is soundly panned, so you get the idea that RCR's analysts aren't just wowed by the sector.

Here's a quote from the conclusion (subtitled "Exciting Prospects"):

"We have been impressed with the quality of KVHI's management, its innovative products and rapidly growing markets...We expect a strong showing from KVHI in the future and initiate coverage with a 'B'."

The only comment that could be construed as non-glowing is a discussion of KVH's decreasing reliance on 3 main customers and the risks associated with its many sole-source arrangements with several suppliers.

The tone was extremely positive. This is really a pretty good newsletter. I dropped my last one 10 years ago, but it may be time to consider a subscription, since it covers 3 stocks I own (FOTO, KVHI and MITY).

I'm working on getting a copy of the Special Situations Report article. This may take some time. After seeing the performance of some of the magazine's selections over the last couple of years, I'm not sure whether endorsement by an Individual Investor publication is a blessing or a curse.

More when I know more...

Does anybody know anything about Gerhard Swarovski and Daniel Swarovski, Austrian citizens who are listed as holding 15.6 and 6.9%, respectively, of KVHI. This information appears in 2 SEC filings on 03/07/97.

To All; there is an upcoming private placement on a company called Futuretrak. This company makes flat panel screens for digital satellite transmission reception, that replaces the big dish and cone, and is strictly for the mobile market; boats, trucks,RV's, etc.

So, earnings next Tuesday after the close?

Hope today's weak market doesn't spill over into next week.

There's already at least one competing company I'm aware of (DTSI). DTSI's products are smaller and lighter than KVHI's, but they are not as well-managed.
