Rising tide lifts all boats?...

Wireless internet seems to be on everyones lips now...

For all intents and purposes the gap @ $8 3/4 has been effectivly closed... one other small gap @ 7 5/8 on 1/31/99 remains...

Exactly three years ago Lernout was at these price levels, and look now. Not a bad ROI incl. a 2/1 split along the way...

Yep, I want XTND to follow it and QCOM and JDSU to hit a new high then I will be happy.. I have so much money tied up in QCOM even after selling half, still have a lot money in it, all these other trades are like little coin toss games compared to what I have in QCOM. I keep wondering about the sanity of having too much in QCOM, there are so many great plays happen before my eyes. I could of made next years gain if I through all the money into LHSP, which is double for me all ready.

OT...

No kiddin' on the Q...that thing carried me to another level of investing last year. I now 'toss' (to use your word) what was the entire value of my portfolio a year ago , at a new buy. I'm a big-time wuss at letting go of a stock that has been so kind to me too...gotta learn to cut the ties sometimes.

Have a good one-
Darin

Interesting to see the market is not interested in the Juno news. It could be a sign that the stock is up on takeover, not fundamentals which could be dangerous once these momentum types get bored and move on.

I thought this announcement was interesting. Again, going back to the basic question of what can GM do to be a technical leader. At least in the car platform, you'll see all sorts of offerings once the market is determined. Can companies add the cost of these services and still sell cars. Will people wait for GM to make this market?

We saw the result of product ahead of demand, and price being too high to justify the price, hence no revenues. Being a new catagory innovator has big costs. The worst could be enlightening the customer only to see a hoard of companys waiting in the wings to fill demand once it kicks in.

Mark

Hitachi Software and @Road Announce Plans for Web-Enabled Auto and Personal Location Capability in Japan
FREMONT, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 23, 2000--In a broad-based agreement announced jointly in Yokohama, Japan, and Fremont, Hitachi Software Engineering Inc., a subsidiary of Hitachi Ltd., and @Road(TM) Inc., disclosed plans to introduce @Road's patented Web-enabled location technology in Japan.

Hitachi Software is a leading system integrator in Internet environment and Geographic Information Systems (GIS). @Road is a leading provider of location-specific e-commerce solutions.

The @Road platform integrates Global Positioning System (GPS), wireless data networks and the Internet to provide Web- and wireless-enabled productivity enhancement solutions for businesses with a mobile work force and for people on the move.

The @Road platform is capable of locating vehicles or other objects accurately and providing a wide range of real-time location and business information through the Internet.

The company's first application, FleetASAP(SM), an online fleet management service, was introduced last year. It is already being used by thousands of business subscribers in the United States and Canada to improve productivity and increase profitability.

``The convergence of three proven technologies -- GPS, wireless data and the Internet -- offers a tremendous opportunity for businesses to improve the efficiency of their mobile operations,' said Krish Panu, @Road chairman and CEO. ``@Road has created an open platform for partners interested in leveraging our patented technology, and we are extremely excited about this strategic alliance with Hitachi Software.

``We believe that our technology and intellectual property, combined with Hitachi's strong presence in Japan, will open the door to new mobile e-commerce opportunities for businesses and consumers in Japan and throughout the world,' Panu said. ``We also believe the partnership will enhance the leadership positions of both Hitachi and @Road.'

``We are at the dawn of Internet Society. The alliance with @Road will definitely accelerate the application of Web-based vehicle location in Japan,' said Tak Kodaira, general manager, Geospatial Information Division, Hitachi Software.

``Hitachi's GIS technology and extensive experience in software integration, combined with the @Road superior Internet-based location technology, will open a new horizon toward the 21st century. The alliance with @Road demonstrates our company's commitment to bringing innovative, high-value products to businesses and consumers.'

The services and capabilities provided by @Road and Hitachi Software are expected to be fully compatible with both major communications carriers in Japan, according to Kodaira.

The agreement with Hitachi Software is expected to pave the way for @Road to continue its international expansion. ``The enormous growth of mobile commerce is creating a worldwide demand for new business solutions,' Panu said. ``We expect many of those solutions to emerge from this technology, which we believe will become the international standard.'

Here is yet again, an announcement of a company that offers e-mail, calendars, and other PIM functions as well as Intranet access. internetnews.com

These announcements are so common, they are hardly worth publishing.

What might be interesting though is the coming show CTIA in the beginning of March. This was the time years ago when GMGC used this show as a platform to announce 11 Telco trials of Portico.

I would think if they had anything to announce, they would try to do it either in advance of, or in conjunction with this show.

Anyway, there will be a lot of announcements flowing as this event approaches.

Regards,

Mark

No Response On Juno A Puzzle

The MMs must know something. This no-response to Juno and downward move almost looks like we are watching a delayed broadcast of a game that has ended.

A quick look at Juno's site finds no mention of MyTalk yet. They do feature AOL's Instant Messenger (the former ICQ). It is nice to see that Juno sees MyTalk living together with AOL's chat.

I think ICQ is a close parallel to MyTalk, a personal communication feature that all the portals will find a need to have. The valuation of ICQ (the Israeli firm Mirabilis)when purchased by AOL in 1998 was $287 million.

I too think a buyout may be about to happen. I hope that Markman's timid response to the $9 tender does not indicate that the $9 value is in play as a possible end result. (I of course understand that the $9 tender was a scam. Nevertheless, Markman would have to be cautious if there were talks with that number in play.)

I have long thought that a $7 - $10 offer for GMGC would be "fair" by any sort of old-fashioned analysis. I am back long thinking that the market will assign an Internet valuation to GMGC.

The absence of new VP hires (or at least the posting of same on web site) seems a nearly certain indication that independence will end.

The RB site remains very active but has gone over to about 70% hype and mindlessness over the past three weeks. It still is a good place to find the latest news release if you do not mind repetition. I suspect that the big player(s) there lightened up considerably in the $10 - $11 range and good for them.

I am looking forward to hearing Markman on March 8. That conference call should end some of the wild rumors. If he has a clear financial plan to get them into 2001, this might be one to tuck away for the medium term. I am tired of GMGC being a trading stock (even though 50% of my profit came from trading).
