Previously they owned 20% of something, but I can't figure out what. Thus it's impossible for me to guess whether they're still selling or if they're comfortable with the remaining position.

Kulicke & Soffa Sells Flip Chip Business to FlipChip International, LLC
Monday February 9, 3:52 pm ET

WILLOW GROVE, PA--(MARKET WIRE)--Feb 9, 2004 -- Kulicke & Soffa Industries, Inc. (NasdaqNM:KLIC - News) today announced that the Company has sold all the assets associated with its advanced packaging technology segment, which consisted solely of the flip chip business. The assets were sold to FlipChip International, LLC, for approximately $3.4 million in cash and the assumption of certain liabilities. The sale included fixed assets, inventories, and intellectual property of the K&S flip chip business located in Phoenix, Arizona. FlipChip International, LLC is a new company located in Phoenix, Arizona.

Maurice Carson, vice president and chief financial officer of K&S stated, "The flip chip bumping services performed by this business unit are no longer a strategic fit with the Company's mission and goals. However, we did take care to find a buyer that would continue operating this business with most of the existing employees in order to provide a smooth transition for our current customers."

He continued, "This business represented 4% of the Company's revenue for the first fiscal quarter ended December 31, 2003. The sale will be cash flow positive for the Company. Going forward, we anticipate the sale of this business will have little impact on the Company financials."

Foundry Watch: Taiwan's assemblers raise CapEx

Silicon Strategies
06/18/2004, 7:00 PM ET

PORTLAND--Taiwan's chip-packaging and test houses are quietly boosting their capital expenditures and capacities to meet robust [demand] in the market.

Backend utilization rates among Taiwanese assemblers have jumped from 70 percent in the second half of 2003, to 80 percent right now, according to Pacific Crest Securities Inc., an investment banking firm in Portland.

"Seven of Taiwan's 11 largest test and packaging houses have recently raised original capital expenditure projections by 30 percent or more to take advantage of robust demand generated from high foundry utilizations," said Michael McConnell, an analyst for Pacific Crest Securities, in a report.

"We expect near-term supply growth to compress prices in the short term, but believe outsourced test and packaging houses will continue to benefit from brisk wafer demand at the foundries and strong growth in NAND and NOR flash," he said.

Has anyone kept track of how much time typically passes between KLIC guiding down and the next time they guide up?
