I'm a little zipped that more positive strength hasn't appeared, since weakness is about all played out, and news coming Tuesday with the fed.. I guess there's nothing to be excited about anymore?

Aren't we suppose to be buying low? (Yeh, really, just like me!) Or we can waste our time "looking for safe havens', a phrase that I'm really tired of hearing. Is the market ever a "safe haven"? How absurd. Like running to pour $$$$$ into the dow cow will save us from ourselves.

Q rocks, politics don't cut it, it's moronetary policy!?!

Nortel is looking to take marketshare in 3G....

biz.yahoo.com

Nortel estimates the 3G network equipment market will be worth $11.3 billion in 2001, with about $5 billion from Europe and the remainder in Japan and Asia.

By 2003, it forecasts a total market value of $37.3 billion, with Western Europe representing $15.7 billion in sales, Japan $5.7 billion and North America $5.9 billion.

Will Grinch$pan steal Xmas ? He has already destroyed the "wealth effect". The economy is significantly slowing. Earnings are on a slippery slope. Pessimism is everywhere. Technology, which has been responsible for the increasing productivity, is suffering. Layoff's are coming. He should be one happy camper, ahhh Fed Chairman.
Give us a break. I promise to never speculate again. I promise to never become irrationally exuberant again (if I ever was ?) Only the shorts are receiving positive "investment returns". Does all this really make sense ?
I am confused.

ML: Do you any particular insight if Korea's WCDMA will be based on the standard UMTS design? Could a WCDMA air interface be combined with a CDMA2000 network? Also, is there any reason why HDR would not be combined with WCDMA?

When I asked you about TDMA ugrades to CDMA2000, you mentioned there would be some equipment that would be shared?

My biggest criticism of Qualcomm from an investor's point of view is that they have done a great job of developing the standards, but have not done a great job explaining how these projects are to be introduced. They seem to back off once they finish the project.

It's time that Qualcomm helped out the public by addressing the alternatives that exist for wireless networkers. WCDMA and CDMA2000 are just fine if you are thinking about a new network. We need to hear alot more on the issues of interoperability - fast!!

Microe: You make an excellent point. It is only the timing of the 3G opportunities that is being put back. However, CDMA2000 (3X) was not going to be ready until the end of next year too. Any 3G networks in Korea are at least a year away anyhow. The equipment doesn't exist today for 5MHZ CDMA - WCDMA or CDMA2000.

That is why the launch of CDMA systems in China next year will provide a nice bridge for QCOM in 2001. Things are going to be rolling in full force by the second half of 2001. However, we needed some short term visibility for QCOM to keep things exciting until we can figure out how CDMA2000 and WCDMA are going to coexist.

in the last couple of minutes (and i do mean last couple) before the close the market makers finally got stock price below 80 so the 80 strike price options would expire worthless. let's hope for a rebound on monday, and that it was largely triple witching volatility today sending the stock down.

Yah, MMs did a great job closing at $80. But, Q closed at the low of the day on heavy volume. Not a good sign. I don't think we have nearly reached bottom yet. marginmike - what do you think???

Well I guess that MAXPAIN worked again. Last week I posted that the MAXPAIN price for Q was $75. I figured the stock would move towards it but didn't expect it to actually get there. Well, the MAXPAIN price moved up to $80 this morning and Q closed down right on target. I've followed this stupid indicator for the last 9 months and it's proven to be correct (during expiration week) about 75% of the time.

I'm once again amazed.

In re-reading Mitsubishi's SWIFTcomm announcement, I noticed it said "provides mobile users the ability to secure high-speed Internet connections on almost any mobile device using its unique @irPointer -- a pocket-sized mobile routing device -- even when traveling at speeds as high as 100 mph."

So perhaps it doesn't do voice?
