Hello All, here is a tracking portfolio of Canadian Biotech Stocks that I put together.

siliconinvestor.com

The initial investment (on paper) was 100,000 at yesterdays closing prices. This was not ideal as I think the
biotechs will pull back over the next month or so after such spectacular gains in just a few weeks.

Notice extra weighting for Biovail, QLT, HML, BRA and DMX which are my personal picks for strong performers
this year.

Any comments or additions are welcome.

Cheers,

Graham

When is Yorkton issuing a report?

All the biotechs except the biggies (BVF for example) are pulling back this week. SOme back filling now is healthy for this stock, it should help MBI later when the bigger drop comes for the small cap biotechs.

OT: QLT is getting beat up a little waiting on approval for visudyne... maybe a good buying opportunity.

cheers,

G.

Good news from MBI on new drug 853NL. All and all it has been a wonderful day. I don't know what will happen tomorrow.

Thanks, it looks like good news to me but it does not look like the market puts any value on it.

Could you add Inflazyme pharmaceuticals (IZP on Toronto) to your Canadian Biotech Portfolio? The stock is up 400% in the last 4 months. Management is doing the dog & pony show in the US. Look for an IPO onto Nasdaq with assistance from Goldman Sachs. I think IZP could double or triple before year end.

Does anyone know if MBI has enough cash to advance MBI 226 through Phase III? The warrants from the last financing should be exercisable soon. This will add $9 Million to MBI's coffers.

We have seen some low ball predictions for MBI. I think MBI could trade at US$15+ after they can get MBI 226 to market(My 18 month target).

I was doing a little research to see if MBI 853NL might be a candidate for fast track approval. It appears some drug developers are attempting to receive fast track approval for their S. Aureus medication. The following comes from Raging Bull.

Nabi staph vaccine

Boca Raton, Florida-based Nabi (NABI) has developed a vaccine designed to protect people from staph infection, a serious complication for some hospital patients. Nabi was looking to reduce the number of infections by 60%, and it has seen positive data towards achieving that goal. Staphylococcus aureus accounts for about 15% of 2 million hospital-related infections recorded in the United States each year. The vaccine, which is currently in Phase III trials, would be a welcome addition to the current stable of antibiotics. Is it really that effective? We will know for sure in about a year. If the data supports moving ahead, Nabi could apply for approval as soon as the fourth quarter of 2000. And if the FDA places the review on fast track because of the urgency of the need, a decision could come within six months.

Sean you amaze me.

Do you have any idea how large the target market for MBI 853NL could be?

Larry:

The Market I believe would not be huge, but potentially it matbe huge. Limited to hospitials only. These infections are not that common YET. What I do know is that resistant is increasing exponentally. Kinda like compounding growth of cash at 10% , looks small in the beginning but explodes at the end.(Bacteria are fasinating and very adaptable creatures)this growth is like the world's population and hopefully MBI stock(ha!)

It would be interesting to know the target market for MBI 853NL. I believe MBI 853NL has the potential to replace Vancomycin as the drug to treat S. Aureus (SA). Vancomicin is a restricted drug with annual sales of US$250 million (1998). MBI 853NL wont have the same restrictions as placed on Vancomycin which should result in greater sales.

The death rate associated with a staph infection is incredibly high.

>>Out of these 260,000 infections, 60,000 to 80,000 people die each year. That comes down to 200 people each day (or 8 people every hour). By the time you have finished reading this web page, one person will have died of a Staph infection.<<

The market for hospital-acquired MRSA is thought to be $20 million annually.

>>Vancomycin alone generates about $250 million in sales worldwide. MRSA, which accounts for 108,000 of 270,000 cases of hospital-acquired Staphylococcus aureus (SA) infections in the U.S., could produce sales of more than $20 million, according to estimates by Tarrytown, N.Y.-based AMBI Inc., a biotechnology firm developing two promising strategies against drug-resistant infections.<<

Any thoughts?
