Yes, that was a very memorable day for sure! Many investors and traders were so stunned, they did not know what to say or think...
The only position I had open were some XAU puts, and they did not respond that much on the day of the crash, but the very next trading day, they quadrupled in value. Who would have thought...

What is interesting, is that way back in 1981/1982, with the market basically doing nothing to write home about, the Financial News Network (FNN) sprang to life, and became successful enough for NBC to eventually take the plunge into the financial television arena with CNBC...
So it has already been proven that the market does not have to be in "tulipland mode" <g> to make interesting TV.
CNBC management should learn from this history, but I am not counting on it.

It is the same old game playing by companies, where they have their "pets" and or their favorites who are given special treatment, sort of like what goes on in grammar school. :(
Same thing goes on in government work... In this area, the human race is still extremely immature and will probably never grow up.

GE bought NBC back in 1985 or so.. been a whole lot of changes since then. Basically went from a media company to a communications arm of a multinational defense contractor and hardware manufacturer/conglomerate:

A lot of interesting history there, and it reminds me of my old 1971 RCA XL-100 23" color television, which gave me a lot of fun watching programs back then like Sonny & Cher, Kung Fu, Bonanza, etc, etc.
The ol' XL-100 was a "hybrid", part tube, part transistor modules.

Haines is really out of his element in his new gig. And he's a lawyer which is why he sometimes comes across like a jerk. Not everyone can be as appealing as Ted David ;-).

But you have to concede, that Mark Haines is preferable any day of the week to the likes of Dylan or Tyler.

I would rank those Tyler, Haines, Dylan in my personal hierarchy of the most obnoxious, but it's all subjective. None would be on the show if I were in charge of personnel there. But I am not.

;<)

They should have brought in a couple of the CNBC-Europe anchors from the London studio. I am fortunate to get to listen to them the first half of my day. Lots of info, gentle good humor and no theatrics.
