This is from a Reuters story after the close today:

''Armstrong is meeting with lawmakers to get the message across that if they are letting other people get together, then they should be allowed to do something as well,'' said Kevin Gooley, an analyst with Standard and Poor's.

''But AT&T is already such a large company. There's the mind set among regulators that 'We broke them up in 1984 and why put them back together?''' Gooley said.

Buying a CLEC such as Teleport Communications Group Inc (Nasdaq:TCGI - news) or Intermedia Communications Inc (Nasdaq:ICIX - news) may be a smarter move for AT&T, since they would give it a local foothold without the regulatory headache of combining with a regional Bell.

''CLECs are an attractive target for AT&T since they already have local service and would make for an easier deal for regulators to handle, plus they have a very attractive business,'' Gooley said.

Shares of Teleport and Intermedia have jumped recently on takeover speculation, but the companies declined to comment.

Rich, $20 1/2 and $21 1/4 to be precise. Two or three more points would have been nice, but that was months ago so my timing wasn't quite so amusing. Sorry to have a chuckle at your expense. Don't look back (except to learn from mistakes) on what could have been. Just be glad you held onto some. I am. The questions now are whether this is just sector rumors or something real, and how much more can we get.

<<<but that was months ago so my timing wasn't quite so amusing>>>

Are you implying my timing was amuzing? I bought the IRA shares at $13...sold em at $20 1/4...what's funny about that? I haven't sold 1 share out of my trade account (only some calls, that money bit the dust on the Nov play). Tomorrow my friend I sell shares that I bought at 8, 9 1/8 & 12 5/16...also sell calls that I bought at 2 15/16 for $11. Anything funny here RD?

You sure comment strangely somtimes...almost like you try to throw digs at people...not sure why though.

Rich (arguing again...probably gonna be another takeover now...lol)

"It is a great thread...even when I'm out of Netcom I'll still visit for the same reasons as
you MK. Better yet, let's get Colin to start a new Thread...how about, "Netcom...the
post merger survivors!" LOL"

Rich,
Yes, I'm still here on the side and really enjoyed the little jump today. Wish I could say I bought at those prices, but if you look at when I started this thread and price then, it still is my biggest stock mistake.

Rich, chill. Have you no sense of humor? If you took offense at my noting what a difference a few days make, sorry. No one here saw this coming, so getting out just before a surprise upturn is certainly no mistake, just sadly ironic. Some people find irony humorous. Now, if you want to start a fight, do it with someone else.

Whatever RD. You broke the cardinal on a rule on a thread...never make fun of somebody else's finances. If you find humor in my exit prices then shame on you, because you are at the same time slapping the face of every person here who exited early. This thread is comprised of many investors sharing in knowledge....we indeed have become a united team with a common effort. If you are amused because of one of the team members exited a position early before a run-up then you can simply get lost. Many have left too early...slap my face, you slap everybody.

To think you told this thread that you were once a broker? Give me a break...what kind of broker were you? Did you find humor and enjoyment when one of your clients missed on a few dollars? That's right..I'll say what many probably want to say but won't...your comments were out of line. Your conduct in a public forum is at least questionable.

We are like water and oil...we simply do not mix well. Next time you want to slap the face of everyone on a thread...do it somewhere else.

Ooooor, were you just sincerely trying to put a dig at me? In which case it is poor conduct as well.

Sorry thread...I just don't like this guys approach sometimes. If he finds amusement in my premature exit of some IRA shares perhaps he finds enjoyment in everyone's exit at the $ 20 range (insecurity problem?). What a joke...anyone that exited at that price should be commended for making that decision. This stock could tank at anytime and we all know it...it's called "Market".

Yes RD you did hit a nerve (like you usually do). Take your wisecracks somewhere else. I have two years invested in this stock...didn't buy a share for over 9 months...if you think you are better than this united thread then fine, but keep your comments to yourself please.

Rich (Finding amusement that RD finds amusement over someone exiting a security).

Hey Colin...glad your still around. I'm saying bye-bye in the morning. Selling all I have. Like others though, I'll still visit here and cheer for the holders. Don't let your entry get you down...the endurance you have has been great...remember this one when it was a dog last April...we've come a long way. I'm hoping to get some back from one of my "Worst pick" (ESST)...you can't get the best entry price everytime.

I gues you won't be attending the Netcom shreholders meeting next May...I mean, there may not be one. Tell me, how does DG project to a crowded room of investors?

Have a nice night,
Rich

MK, Curtis, Colin, Paul, etc., I apologized for any offense taken from what was intended only as good natured ribbing. I guess I should have known better, but I thought we were all buds here. We share ideas, debate, congratulate, argue, get mad and then shake hands and forget about it. I guess not everyone forgets about it.

Rich, I'll try one more time. I'm not attacking you. If you thought so, I'm sorry. If you can't accept that, too bad.

Rich,
The last shareholders' meeting I went to was a long ways from a crowded room (more like a dozen people) and the meeting only lasted about ten minutes. I should have seen it then.
