I think you can duplicate him, but the question is, when it comes time, will the present organization and the board let someone who has the drive, enthusiasm, creativity, and unquieness survive the clawing to the top that goes on.

Why is Linux so important as to need to buy it with the computer? Why Linux instead of OS X? Why complain about the price of something you wont use? Why do you ask these questions when you already know the answer?

What's so important about "open?"

There was an Orange for the Mac? I remember the one for the Apple IIe, but not for the Mac. Was that the Performa years?

>>you are unintentionally correct that nobody's buying iMacs--sales of Mac desktops have cr*shed YoY.<<

Well, it's true that desktop sales dropped significantly. From 936 thousand units in Q4 2008 to 787 thousand in Q4 2009. A decrease of roughly 149 thousand units I wouldn't say that meant that "nobody" is buying iMacs, but the decrease is undeniable.

But what's happening is not that everybody is buying PCs instead of iMacs. They are buying Apple notebooks instead, which is why sales of Apple portables increased from 1,675 thousand (1.675 million) in Q4 2008 to 2,266 thousand (2.266 million) in Q4 2009. That's a difference, on the plus side, of 591 thousand, which more than makes up for the decline in desktop sales. Apple is very happy to sell portable computers, with their higher profit margins, in place of desktops.

It's probably best to look at all the data before settling down to enjoy yourself.

Speaking of design, I happened to follow a Wikipedia link to jonathanive.com today. I must say that it's a model of simplicity.

PS: I looked at the code, and the appearance of the site is not a mistake. Then I did some further digging, and found that the domain originally didn't belong to Ive, but to a guy named Harry Jones, who claims to be a fan.

Evidently, people at Apple tried to pressure Jones into giving up the domain, but he declined. He is quoted as saying, "In February 2008 another Apple Inc. employee got in touch and I was put under great pressure to give up my website. That Apple employee offered me an iPod (and later a Macbook) in exchange. This upset me, as I had spent a tremendous amount of time building and maintaining the website."

I guess something happened, because the site is now registered to a British law firm, which firm I'm guessing represents Ive, and I would speculate that its present content (or lack thereof) is intended as a statement.

We all know there are less expensive computers available, so what's the point of repeating that over and over again?

The endless need for attention and to get a rise out of those that haven't started using ignore yet.

Amazing how much damage one little grenade tossed into a circle causes!

It went into the Power Mac 6100 series.

Same years as the Performa's but I can't see there is the Orange PC add on in the Performa's specs.

If you download Mactracker you can see the history of pretty much every product Apple has created.

I've found it to be a very useful little App.

Here's a link to it:

Stocks go up... till they don't anymore...

Remember Microsoft in the 90s?? You could have said the same thing about them back then. Then look at the last 10 years

And with Apple close to $200 billion valuation, good luck looking for a double (or $400 billion valuation) from here... in 2 years or 5 years or 10 years for that matter... cause IMO the money to give you such a return would better be invested in a smaller cap company. And BTW, least you say...but look at AAPL during the last year.. it doubled... yeah, but so did a POS like MSFT and almost every other big cap. So the market raised all boats. Nothing extraordinary at Apple when a POS like MSFT goes up 100% as well. But in the same time a company like SNDK & STEC went up 600%. So what do you think is the probability that a company like STEC for example a $1 billion company goes to $2 billion in the next 2 years versus Apple going from a $200 billion to a $400 billion???

PS. STEC is not a recommendation. Just an example.
