where do I find a professional installer?

It used to be a layman could install a car stereo.

Just bolt the 8-track to the bottom of the dash, run some wires under the rug, hook up to some old stereo speakers, and you were ready for Foghat and Jethro Tull (tip o' the hat to Stan Ridgway - The Roadblock Lyrics).

I think those days are over. Like I said I bought my system from Best because it was one well reviewed on Amazon. If anything went wrong I wanted to be able to take it back and not have to argue whether it was the hardware or the installer. Player + install around $200. They put in thousands every year, lots of experience with different models and different dashboards.

This is the one I bought for my 4Runner and again for my Prius.

Below is the link for Mazda compatibility.

Here is an easy to understand explanation of the interface.

I did the installation on both of my vehicles. It wasn't terribly easy, but easy enough.

Then I used proclip to mount the unit.

The computer industry has hit upon its Next Big Thing. It is called a phone.

Emboldened by Apple’s success with its iPhone, many PC makers and chip companies are charging into the mobile-phone business, promising new devices that can pack the horsepower of standard computers into palm-size packages.

Is that photo correct - you're talking pictures of yourself driving while driving 70mph?

The photo is correct, but the statement is not. (you're talking pictures of yourself driving while driving 70mph?) I'm not in the shot, however I was taking the picture.

I set the camera, a Canon Powershot A95, to action mode (fast shutter), and then held it up and snapped away. If you'll notice on the GPS, I was in the lower east corner of Missouri on controlled access highway with almost no traffic. Well, it's not readily apparent, yet that is the case. At least for that shot.

This should interest a few people, but especially Doren.

Interesting article!

But I think it may be wrong, at least for Apple.

I betcha Apple's coming out with a "Super iPod" about 4" x 6" that uses WiFi, WiMAX, and phone company network connections. I don't think they'll use cell phone voice. Why should they? The phone will be clumsy to use up by the ear. Why not just go straight to VoIP and use Skype or other VoIP solutions for voice and conferencing? I bet it also will still use virtual keys, but they'll work better because they'll be bigger and easier to hit.

Such a device would fit beautifully in my cargo pants pocket (that's all I wear these days). Such a device will just kill all netbooks.

A lot of people are focused on the iPhone, but I think the iPod Touch is the bigger success in the end. A system like a Super Touch will be tough on AT&T because I don't think AT&T was sharp enough to lock Apple into non-phone devices.

What a cool book reader it would be on top of it all. Wouldn't it be nice if it were topped off with an OLED screen?

I like to pretend. :-)

Great link, thanks! Those early NextStep experiments really aged well, all things considered. The KDE stuff has come a long way, good for them.

Dunno if it's ubiquity or what, but nothing Windows seems to age well at all.
