Snow Leopard was definitely faster than Leopard

Good to know, thank you. I went from Leopard on a PowerPC iMac to Snow Leopard on a new Intel iMac, so I had no way to compare them myself.

I suppose I should benchmark my Snow Leopard iMac before I make the move to Mountain Lion just to see how the speeds compare.

I may just sell this year old iMac and get a new one once they're released, rumored to also be in June. With the prices old Macs go for, it probably wouldn't cost me too much to make that switch and I'll get a newer, faster processor out of the deal.

J.F. Sebastian: I feel like I should yell at you. Have you not been reading this board and all the advancements of the Apple ecosystem and the iEverythings? Those things need frequent updates and by proxy, Apple is forced to upgrade the laptops/desktops too, since the iEverythings get connected to them for all sorts of activities like downloading photos etc etc. Sometimes updates are needed to contain malware, and, if you can afford a Apple desktop/laptop, you can afford to upgrade to Lion - $30!

Bloat - what the hell do you own? I have a seven year old iMac with the Lion upgrade and it's not any more slow than before the upgrade.

I also have a year old iMac and it is unphased by any upgrade. You may want to consider adding more RAM to your rig. That's the fastest, cheapest way to cure bloat - and you may even protect yourself from Lahcim's cruel metaphors and be able to virtually dry yourself off!

To answer your question, there is no negative result from upgrading to the latest version.

Everyone here is welcome to post nonsense, and to waste readers' time.

Like this:

"A long time ago in November of 2008, ... I bought my first 100 shares at the price of 33.59."

Welcome Piano. You are indeed a poet.

Perhaps you should be this board's poet laureate though I think you may have to earn that honor with a few more well turned phrases around our favorite fruit company.

Now, how about a few Chopin études?

Hehe, therein lies some of my issue to begin with. I'm not a fan of the "iOSing" of everything in OS X. As best I can tell, ALL of the major changes in Mountain Lion are things borrowed from iOS.

if you can afford a Apple desktop/laptop, you can afford to upgrade to Lion - $30!

Cost is not the issue to me, backward compatibility is. Maybe I'm just a dinosaur, but I think Apple could do a much better job of supporting older versions of OS X and the compatibility we love. What is the reason Apple killed Power PC compatibility with Lion? I think the answer is to push hardware sales, not because it is best for the Apple consumer. As a shareholder I like that, as a user of Apple's computers, I don't like it at all.

Bloat - what the hell do you own? I have a seven year old iMac with the Lion upgrade and it's not any more slow than before the upgrade.

I own a Mid 2011 iMac, bought it last June with Snow Leopard on it. I find it hard to believe you have a seven year old iMac and it runs Lion well -- or are you being facetious? An iMac of that age is one of the first Intel iMacs and they stopped out at Snow Leopard 10.6.8, not to mention they can use a maximum of 2.0 GB of RAM. In any case, can you tell me the exact model of iMac you have? I'd love to know the specs.

I also have a year old iMac and it is unphased by any upgrade. You may want to consider adding more RAM to your rig.

I have 16 GB of glorious RAM in this beast, so it is not the issue. I'm a speed freak, and little things like the speed with which windows open and populate the file list gnaw on me. I want it fast, fast, FAST!

and you may even protect yourself from Lahcim's cruel metaphors and be able to virtually dry yourself off!

I've found there is no protection from Lahcim's cruel metaphors. It is the price we pay for his notable contributions to this thread (and others). :-)

Sr K, it's possible that pianopoet made a simple mistake. Let's give him the benefit of the doubt.

It seems to me that many of your posts are criticisms of the posts of others. I'm sure all of us here are happy to hear your thoughts on other subjects. I, for one, am less interested in your ideas about what other people should post, or how they should post it, and in fact I find such posts from you to be disruptive. I'll ask you to please respect the rights of others.

Thank you for your cooperation.

It's not a "simple mistake". You are being too polite or a pushover.

I recognized it, that's all.

There are at least 3 separate "simple mistakes".

1. A long time ago in November of 2008

2. I bought my first 100 shares at the price of 33.59.

3. I am amazed that my unrealized gain is well over 1600%.

Check the low for Apple for November 2008. It probably occurred on 11/21/2008. AAPL was not 33.59 any time in 2008 or since then.
