Snow Leopard was definitely faster than Leopard, and I haven't had any problem with slowness in Lion, although it did take back some of the gains in boot time that Snow Leopard had given me. On the other hand, Lion also restores all my apps to their prior states when I reboot, and that takes time. If I close all apps first, it's fine.

Plus, the swipes and such, between webpages back in line via the trackpad on my MacBook Pro is really cool.

Saves a lot of time.
