I keep reading how ad revenues from mobile are pitiful…no one wants to pay for or consume them in that space.

With Google's business being advertising, and Facebook making no meaningful revenue from mobile and Microsoft woefully behind in joining the game, and Android being free to OEMs and RIMM running on fumes, and Nokia running out of landfill for their pre-smartphones…

I'm starting to wonder if these companies all have some sort of death wish.

It reinforce the idea that Apple is a cyclical company instead of a growth company and does not deserve a premium P/E mulitiple.

Damn man, if you put a big black label over the name, ignore market cap and looked at P/E and growth prospects yada yada yada, you'd conclude that you were looking at a

beleaguered company.

Well, partially beleaguered.

dang.

If Apple was a person, they'd be like this:

Well ... time to get back into those $2013 $600s with the underlying at $584. This dip was much bigger than I expected and I hope it's not smoke from some larger fire but I think it's just gap-filling mechanics. Could still move lower but this is as good a spot as any to start reestablishing.

Leaving room for a couple of additional adds if I get the opportunity for a lower price. Valuation is GREAT.

If it runs too far, I'll sell for the gain. But hoping to hold for a bit and maybe add more when it firms up.

The really fast rollout in 4S (and in some way Ipad and probably iphone 5) move sales from future quarter into the launch quarter and my guess is that we will start seeing very lumpy sales number going forward with this fast rollout strategy. It is not good for stock price nor managing the manufacturing base. It reinforce the idea that Apple is a cyclical company instead of a growth company and does not deserve a premium P/E mulitiple.
I see a couple of things wrong in here. First, you're implying that it's better for Apple to have supply constraints when launching a new product. In the fast moving mobile markets, I think being able to satisfy demand is better.

I note that the new iPad is still supply constrained, and this reduced sales in fiscal Q2. Sure, some of those sales will be captured in Q3, but with the competitive environment always in flux, one is better off having a buying in the hand, than one in the bush.

As far as Apple being cyclical and therefore not a growth company, when the low parts of the cycle continue to be higher than previous lows, and when the high parts continue to represent new highs, I don't think you can logically argue that Apple isn't a growth company. Denying that is like arguing that AAPL isn't a growth stock because the the chart isn't linear.

Feeling fried? Android app warns how much radiation your phone is blasting into you (but Apple won't allow it for iPhone)

There are two types of radiation - ionizing and non-ionizing. The ionizing variety is the kind that can make physical changes in the substances it passes through. X-rays and gamma rays are two kinds of ionizing radiation. The low-energy radiation (radio waves) used by cell phones is the non-ionizing kind, which is not capable of making changes to the things it passes through, including your head. It passes through leaving no more trace than the countless neutrinos that travel through us every day.

Here's How Important Wal-Mart Is To Apple's Success

Nice to see that the decision to go into Walmart has paid off in real sales.

However, I wouldn't make the assumption that Apple would lose 11% of its iPad sales if Walmart didn't carry iPads. I'd say that the majority of buyers would simply get their iPads elsewhere.

I also would not assume, as the author of that piece seems to, that Apple sells iPads to Walmart at a reduced price so the company can make a reasonable profit on them. Like most electronics retailers, I'm sure Walmart is happy just to have the extra traffic to their stores, as well as the more profitable accessory sales.

I don't think it would make a bit of difference if they closed their doors tomorrow. Actually it might be helpful if those people who would have bought at Best Buy go to an Apple store instead. Think of all the goodies they would be exposed to that they didn't even know they wanted.
I agree, Annie. It's just like the situation with Wal-mart. People don't just become aware of the iPad and develop an interest in buying it because they see it on the shelf at Best Buy or some other store. They go in to the store looking for it, or at minimum, already being aware of it.

I believe that's true, anyway. I don't have hard data to back it up. But given the very widespread awareness of each new Apple product in the populace at large, I'm sure it's true.

My hand therapist, who knows pretty much nothing about technology, has been talking to me about whether to buy an iPhone or an iPad. She wants to wait until the "new iPhone," as she refers to it, comes out before she makes her decision. She says she has heard the new iPhone will be out in June.
