The professional analysts werent expecting sequential growth.

OTOH, many of the independent analysts who have had a fairly good track record were doing exactly that. Some of them have been cited on this thread....and for better or worse, I think they now help set earnings expectations for Apple.

It doesnt matter anymore. Expectations are a moving target and I now think that if Apple were to ship 34-35 million units, it would be considered a good number.

I think 35 million still looks possible. At least we don't have long to wait until we find out.

How good were the independents on the September 2011 quarter numbers? I was under impression they missed by quite a lot then.

It is getting harder and harder to ascertain what the stock price is currently judging with regard to earnings and various metrics (i.e., what set of numbers would result in no change to stock price after the announcement).

Guess we'll find out in about 6 hours.

They definitely missed in the September quarter....which is why I took some of the projections about a monster quarter with a grain of salt.

This is the most bearish I've heard this board in a long, long time.

Interesting.

LQMT. For those interested, it may be worthwhile to know what influenced that stock.
iPhone 5 liquidmetal rumor.

I was dead wrong about how long and far that rumor would run. Said three days usually, max, and thought it topped out on day two. It topped out on day four. My bad. Huge.

Anyway, that's all behind us, now.

Until the next liquidmetal iPhone 5 rumor hits the wires. By then I hope to be back in, again.

Best!

Fitch downgrades Nokia's debt rating to junk

Fitch ratings agency on Tuesday downgraded Nokia Corp.'s debt to junk status to reflect the
company's poor first-quarter earnings and its uphill struggle to remain competitive.

Rival ratings agency Moody's dropped Nokia to near junk status in anticipation of the first-quarter results last week.

UPDATE 1-HTC sees recovery but no return to U.S. peaks

(Reuters) - Taiwan smartphone maker HTC Corp won't have the United States as its largest market from this
year, a sign of how far it has fallen and how much more work it has to do in Asia to regain share lost to rivals
Apple Inc and Samsung Electronics.

But it suffered an equally rapid fall from grace as its phones failed to keep up with Apple's iPhones and
Samsung's Galaxy range.

HTC reported a 70 percent tumble in net profit in the first quarter to T$4.464 billion ($151.5 million), just below
forecasts, early this month.

What if Sprint, with it's unlimited data plan, signed up 5M iPhones? Can Sprint be the sleeping giant? :)
