Google has had problems controlling costs long before Android. They hired 1900 people last quarter....and when asked about that hiring they responded with a whole host of areas.

In fact, over half the Newglers who joined this quarter are going to be working in high potential and revenue growth areas like YouTube, Mobile, Chrome, commerce and local and Enterprise.

Considering how many resources that Google puts into all sorts of unsuccessful endeavors, I think it will be quite a while before they would even think about abdicating control of Android.

JP Morgan Raises Estimates on Apple (AAPL) Ahead of Q2 Results
8:47 am ET 04/15/2011 - StreetInsider

J.P. Morgan analyst Mark Moskowitz raised his expectations for Apple Inc. (NASDAQ: AAPL) just ahead of the company's April 20 second quarter earnings call on continued growth of the iPad and iPhone.

Moskowitz raised his projections for second-quarter EPS from $5.21 to $5.39, while also lifting his revenue forecast from $23.83 billion to $24.42 billion.

"The law of large numbers stands to diminish the relative magnitude of earnings beats exhibited in years past," Moskowitz cautioned.

Apple's iPhone shipments are expected by the analyst to be better than expected, boosted by the launch of the iconic device on the Verizon (NYSE: VZ) network. JP Morgan now sees the company having sold 18.4 million iPhones, up from a previous forecast of 16.6 million.

Moskowitz also raised his full year iPad shipment forecast to 31.3 million, up from 29.1 million.

JP Morgan reiterated its overweight rating and $450 price target on Apple.

Personally, I like laptops. Have one and a netbook. And I'd like the 16 hours of battery time that hybrid delivers. And being able to leave the keyboard behind, anytime, going with just the slate. To my mind, that is a smart design.

Lower-than-expected Xoom sales prompt Apple iPad competitors to delay tablets

By Katie Marsal

A slow start for the Motorola Xoom tablet has reportedly convinced manufacturers to delay the release of Android 3.0 Honeycomb-based tablets as they hope to compete with Apple's iPad.

Citing sources in Taiwan, DigiTimes reported Friday that Google has been "unable to offer sufficient support" for its partners with regards to Android 3.0. Issues with the tablet-centric mobile operating system have allegedly forced manufacturers to delay the launch of Honeycomb-powered devices.

Specifically, Asustek Computer is said to have postponed the launch dates of its Eee Pad Transformer tablets to the end of April and to May. Originally, they were supposed to launch on April 15.

And HTC is also said to have postponed the volume production date for its Flyer tablets. That device is set to launch in the second quarter of 2011.

Manufacturers have reportedly become wary of releasing devices running Android 3.0 Honeycomb following the launch of the Motorola Xoom, which is said to have had "lower than expected" sales. Problems cited by sources in Taiwan include "brand image, pricing, insufficient applications and the unstable performance of Android 3.0."

In addition, manufacturers are said to be concerned over the shortage of key components following the earthquake and tsunami disaster in Japan. Apple is said to have taken a proactive approach to the crisis, offering upfront cash payments to suppliers to secure components for devices like the in-demand iPad 2.

Motorola has not announced official sales figures for the Xoom, released in February, but one estimate earlier this month pegged total sales at just 100,000 units. Apple has not yet announced iPad 2 sales figures, but the first-generation iPad reached 1 million sales in less than a month when it debuted in the U.S. in 2010.

No brand, high prices, no apps and unstable. Jeez I'm surprised they aren't flying off the shelves.

Whoops.

Would love to see Apple broaden the line with a retina display iPad Pro in the fall. Stake out more turf while others are still trying to get their feet wet.

The PC market as a giraffe

Gartner's picture of the computer industry would look very different if it included the iPad

The blue line is the PC market as Gartner defines it with the iPad's growth thrown in. The green line is PCs running Microsoft's (MSFT) Windows. The red line is Apple's (AAPL) Macintosh. The orange line is the Mac plus the iPad.

Hey Apple, you're supposed to rebound from these levels and then go down. What the heck are you doing? Price dropping on below average volume. No excited buyers? A lot of people waiting to see what happens before they buy or sell?

On the off chance Apple gives great guidance and says no supply chain problems and BTW the iP5 is coming out in June... That would be a fun stock rally. Sorry, just fantasizing...

Who knows? Now the market is pricing in some bad stuff... How bad is up to the individual trader to decide. If you're an investor it's just short term noise.
