Want Siri to tell you which is the best smartphone? You just have to ask the right questions!
May 15, 2012 | By Surur

wmpoweruser.com

While apple has been plugging the holes in Siri’s Reality Distortion field recently, careful probing can still get Apple’s voice control system to admit that, overall, Windows Phone 7 users love their Nokia Lumia 900’s maybe just a little bit more than Apple users love their iPhones.

So while Siri will no longer admit that the Nokia Lumia 900 is “the best smartphone ever” asking it which is the phone with the best customer satisfaction does produce the now expected results (until Apple changes the script again of course : ) )

Prank your iPhone totting friends while you can!

Thanks Brent3000 and Riven for the tip and screen shot.

Kantar: Windows Phone climbs to 3-4% market share in major markets, may have overtaken Blackberry in USA
May 15, 2012 | By Surur

wmpoweruser.com

Market research company Kantar WorldPanel has revealed in the last 12 weeks to mid-April Windows Phone has shown strong growth in the 7 major markets they monitor on the strength of Nokia’s offerings.

In 5 of the 7 markets (Germany, Britain, Italy, France and United States) Windows Phone market share is now in the 3-4% range, up from less than 2% in January 2012. In Germany Windows Phone market share more than doubled year on year to 6%.

In contrast RIM saw its US market share collapse to just 3% from 9% a year earlier, suggesting Windows Phone may have matched or even passed RIM’s market share in USA.

Kantar has predicted in January Windows Phone market share may hit 10% in Europe in the second half of 2012, and it seems to me with more Windows Phones being announced all the time that this may very well be achievable.

Results From Smoked By Windows Phone Campaign In Korea(Video)
May 15, 2012 | By Pradeep

wmpoweruser.com

Microsoft Korea organized Smoked by Windows Phone campaign in their country and the results of the challenges are out now. As usual, Windows Phone dominated the challenge. Totally 923 people participated, and Windows Phone won against 909 people. That leads to a winning percentage of whopping 98.48%. The defeated other platform devices includes iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, Galaxy Note HD LTE, Galaxy Nexus, Galaxy S, Galaxy SII, etc,. I think Microsoft should further expand this program to some new countries to spread the message about Windows Phone platform.

Thanks to Ben for the heads up.

NVidia to support Windows Phone with ‘superphone’ NVidia Grey processor in 2013
May 15, 2012 | By Surur

wmpoweruser.com

Windows Phone Italy reports from the recent HTC Frequencies blogger conference, where Mike Rayfield, NVIDIA’s general manager, Mobile Business Unit, gave a speech on their processor roadmap.

There Mike showed the above slide, showing their upcoming Wayne and Grey processors. The Grey processor, coming in 2013, was specifically called out as supporting Windows Phone (and of course Android, Windows and Linux).

The Grey processors will be built on 28 nm and feature Icera’s LTE modem built-in.

We have seen this roadmap before, in September 2011, when Jen-Hsun Huang, chief executive officer of Nvidia called it “a tiny chip to address the vast majority of the smartphone market."

With ST Ericsson’s NovaThor processor (which will likely show up in Nokia handsets) it is likely we will see a much greater variety of processors in Windows Phone 8, which should at least make the benchmarking game much more interesting.

Nokia to launch a Windows Phone 8 device by the end of the year

Brad Sams

neowin.net

Windows Phone 8 is just around the corner, June specifically, but we already knew this but a little bit of new information, or rumored information, has made its way to an Israeli tech site who is citing a Nokia PR rep who said that Windows Phone 8 devices from Nokia will hit store shelves before year’s end.

In addition, Windows Phone 8 will also have “full support for Hebrew” and the source again re-confirms the June unveiling of the new platform. We have long heard that other vendors will have Windows Phone 8 devices by the end of the year and now we can toss Nokia’s name in to that hat with a bit more confidence.

It should not comes as a surprise that Nokia would be quick to jump on the Windows Phone 8 bandwagon considering they are betting the entire company on the new platform. If you forgot what Windows Phone 8 will encompass, you can take a look here to learn more.

With a Windows Phone developer conference about four weeks away, we should learn a lot more about Microsoft’s second generation of the Windows Phone environment. There has already been a lot of controversy about if current devices will be upgradable to the new OS, but so far, all signs point to no.

Thanks for helping with translation Ben!

Automatically put a Call on Speaker using Voice Command
by Saijo George on May 17, 2012

1800pocketpc.com

We have seen multiple Windows Phone Tips on our Tip and tricks video ( part 1 ) ( part 2 ). But every now and then you might come across something new. I always knew you can give voice commands to place outgoing calls on Windows Phone but what I did not know was that you can also ask Windows Phone to place that call on speaker. The credits for this goes to black-lion_213 on reddit.

The command you use is ” Call <> on speaker “ after clicking and holding the Windows Button. So did you know this feature existed ? Got any other handy tips let us know via the comments below.

Leaked product list reveals Nokia Lumia 719c and Samsung Minuet coming to China Telecom
Posted by Saad Hashmiat

windowsphonedaily.com

We've been hearing a lot from China recently for its growing Windows Phone lineup, and the world's largest carrier may be ready to add a few more devices to its stable. As you may already know, China Telecom is already home to Nokia's Lumia 800c and according to a WPDang report from a few days ago, they have plans to add a few more familiar (and unfamiliar) faces.

In addition to the previously announced Lumia 610c, a leaked product listing recently the carrier's plans to stock the elusive Lumia 719c as well as the Samsung Minuet (which is presumed to be a CDMA version of the new Omnia M). For those who may have missed it, the Lumia 719 (pictured) was first leaked in the form of a Bluetooth certification and then hands-on photos made their way online in March. The device remains very mysterious with the only unconfirmed specs at this point being its 3.7" LCD screen and 5-megapixel camera. It's also been rumored that the device will make its way to North and South America as well.

WPDang notes that one notable absence from the list is the ZTE Mimosa, the CDMA version of the Orbit which was leaked a few weeks ago and suspected to launch on China Telecom at some point. We'll have to see what the carrier is up to there, and hopefully we'll hear more about these new Nokia and Samsung CDMA devices sooner rather than later. After all, China is a very important market for everyone involved.

Windows Phone takes China by storm–already 7% market share, ahead of iPhone
May 17, 2012 | By Surur

wmpoweruser.com

When Microsoft announced at the launch of Windows Phone Tango handsets in China that passing the iPhone in China was just an interim goal on the way to overtaking Android, it did seem rather grandiose.

It seems Microsoft was right however, with Michel van der Bel, COO Greater China Region at Microsoft saying that a mere 2 months after the launch Windows Phone 7 handsets already had a 7% market share in China, ahead of the 6% of the iPhone there.

"We have only just begun," he noted, saying he expects the synergies between Windows 8 tablets and Windows Phone will power even more growth.

“Our smartphone and tablet-pc are hybrid, making them suitable for the consumer, but also easy to insert within an existing company infrastructure. This will allow us to better anticipate the consumerization of IT than many competitors. "

IDC had predicted Windows Phone would ovetake iPhone in China, but only next year.

They expected Windows Phone would take 7.5 percent of the China market this year, trailing the 12 percent share of Apple’s IOS and Android’s 70 percent, but by next year, Windows share was expected to rise to 15 percent, surpassing Apple’s 13 percent.

Android still dominates the Chinese mobile market with a market share of around 69 percent.

In terms of the app battle, Bell admitted that Windows Phone was behind. "We indeed still have a battle. There are currently working at our R & D Department 2,500 people in China. We will invest heavily in there, "said the COO.

Windows Phone recently ovetook the iPhone in Russia also, making for a trend we can certainly appreciate.

Thanks Christophe for the tip.
