Nokia Lumia 900 launch delayed in UK due to “overwhelming demand …in the US”
April 25, 2012 | By Surur

wmpoweruser.com

Nokia has told v3.co.uk that the UK version of the Nokia Lumia 900 has been delayed to the 14th May due to difficulty keeping the handset in stock in USA.

"The overwhelming demand for the Lumia 900 in the US with AT&T has, unfortunately, had a small knock-on effect on product availability in the UK," the Nokia spokesperson said.

"The Lumia 900 is now expected to be available from Phones4U around the 14th May."

Nokia has not released any figures for the US launch but has said that sales have exceeded expectations and the company is having difficulty meeting demand. Hopefully some of this hype will spill over into UK, where according to Nokia the Lumia range has been having difficulty cracking the market.

Compal to see big Q2 shipment boost on strength of Lumia sales
April 24, 2012 | By Surur

wmpoweruser.com

Digitimes reports that Taiwan-based Compal Communications is likely to see its smartphone shipments in second-quarter 2012 increase sequentially by 30-40% to 2.5-3.0 million units mainly due to ODM production of Lumia series smartphones for Nokia.

While Lumia sales have been mixed, in some regions they have been particularly strong, such as Northern Europe and USA recently, with Nokia confirming the handsets are selling faster than they can produce them on AT&T.

Nokia will also launch entry-level Lumia 610 in the Philippines, China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan and Vietnam in late April, according to sources.

Nokia is struggling to get back to profitability, and has warned that their Q2 results would likely be poor, but that they expected Q3 to show significant improvement.

Windows Phone crosses 1% US web traffic for the first time
April 24, 2012 | By Surur

wmpoweruser.com

While we do not expect the massive boost in Windows Phone market share in USA as in Finland with the introduction of the Nokia Lumia 800, we have been keeping a close eye on statcounter’s USA stats to see the influence of the Nokia Lumia 900 launch on the Windows Phone US presence.

The number reveals that the Windows Phone share of web traffic in USA has for the first time crossed the 1% mark, with a clear inflection point at week 14 2012, with the launch of the Nokia Lumia 900.

At a rough guess we would estimate around 100,000 Nokia Lumia 900s have been sold, which would of course put the handset on track for 1 million sold if sales are maintained.

On a side note, Statcounter recently restated Symbian and S40 numbers, resulting in Windows Phone now being clearly ahead in web traffic terms in USA at 0.6% vs 1%.

Magenta Nokia Lumia 900 exists, coming to Finland via Gigantti. Is AT&T next?
Posted on Wed, 25 Apr 2012 5:25 am EDT by Daniel Rubino

wpcentral.com

We've reported in the past that AT&T was rumored to be getting a magenta (red, fuchsia, pink etc) Nokia Lumia 900 on Sunday, May 13th right in time for Mother's Day.

Since that report we've had a sighting in a Microsoft Store (since removed) and Nokia's Facebook page (also since removed).

The image above clearly shows once and for all that a magenta Lumia 900 does indeed exist. What's more, those in Finland will evidently have the honors of being one of the first regions to get their hands on it.

The retail site Gigantti has the phone listed with the SKU NOKLUMIA900MA with a release slated for an unspecified day in, you guessed it, May.

The phone is up for pre-order now but who knows how long it will be up since last we checked, Nokia has not made an official announcement on such a color being offered. Of course knowing that the Lumia 800 comes in that color choice, it's not much of a stretch to see its bigger brother get the red treatment as well.

So AT&T, your move.

ZTE Tania coming to Virgin Media, Windows Phone on the cheap Windows Phone on a budget
26 April 2012 12:56 GMT / By Danny Brogan

pocket-lint.com

Virgin Media has announced it is to sell the ZTE Tania from mid-May, bringing Windows Phone 7.5 Mango to a lower price point.

Pay as you go customers will be able to get hold of the phone for £199.99 while the handset is available for free on a number of pay monthly contracts starting from £17.99 a month.

The Tania was officially unveiled by ZTE in September 2011 and was even confirmed for a UK release back in January.

However, Virgin Media is the first UK operator to agree to stock the phone, with devices in store and online from mid-May.

The handset will arrive running on the latest Windows Phone 7.5 Mango operating system, which will save you having to plug the phone into your computer and updating.

Microsoft recently announced that in order to continue to purchase apps from its Marketplace, all Windows Phone devices would need to be updated to Mango 7.5.

Are you thinking of purchasing the ZTE Tania? Let us know your thoughts.

Microsoft’s Windows Phone Marketplace Affiliate Program ..coming soon ?
by Saijo George on April 26, 2012

1800pocketpc.com

affiliate-marketing
It looks like Microsoft is working on a Windows Phone Marketplace Affiliate Program that will allow publishers to earn commission on app and games sales and it would seem that the Microsoft’s Windows Phone Marketplace Affiliate Program is in development and participation is by invitation only. The affiliate links go through microsoftaffiliates.com website which is registered under Microsoft Corporation and affiliate links like http://www.microsoftaffiliates.com/z/1076/CD2908/ resolve to the the web marketplace http://www.windowsphone.com/en-US/apps/540af928-3c9e-e011-986b-78e7d1fa76f8. these links are not optimized to be viewed on Windows Phone as the links resolve to the web marketplace instead of redirecting to the Marketplace App on the phone.

According to participating members it seems that affiliates get between 8% and 12% of app purchases ( from Microsoft’s 30% cut and not from the devs 70% ) and most paid apps are available via the programme with the exception of xBox Live games ( that’s a bummer ) . It would seem some publishers are already invited to use this features eg ( improvisoft.com ) . If Microsoft is looking for more beta testers , feel free to shoot an invite our way and we look fwd to see this going public.

Latest Rumor Flip-Flops On Windows Phone 8 Update Situation
By: Stephen Schenck |2:20 PM 26-Apr-12

pocketnow.com

Paul Thurrott is pretty darn plugged-in when it comes to Microsoft, and when he comments on current rumors, speaking with authority, it's likely because he's been privy to some insider information. Recently, we heard him discuss the possibility for currently-available Windows Phone handsets to receive software updates in the future which would upgrade them to Windows Phone 8. There had been rumors on both sides of the issue, but according to Thurrott, it just wasn't going to happen. Now, a rumor out of Russia attempts to second-guess Thurrott, claiming that Mango phones very much will be receiving Apollo updates.

This news comes WP7Forum.ru, where the site reports getting its information from a trusted source with close ties to Windows Phone. It's heard that OEMs will get access to WP8 sometime this July, both for configuring on new devices and working on preparing updates to existing models. While the site admits that the information it's heard may change, it seems very confident that it's currently accurate.

We'd very much like to believe this news is true, and it well could be, but the fact that the rumors have been going on for as long as they have without Microsoft stepping up to formally deny them has us thinking that WP8 really could be for new hardware only. After all, rumors about a lack of an update are going to start having an effect on WP7 sales, if they haven't already, as consumers put off their purchases until the new OS is available. It's starting to seem like the only reason for Microsoft to stay quiet is if the bad news is true.
