Washington Post hit job on Gingrich

December 16, 2011 by Ed Morrissey
hotair.com

Today’s Washington Post carries a story about a “curious case in the annals of the FBI,” but the only curious aspect of the story is why the Post published it

with the headline

FBI considered a sting aimed at Newt Gingrich in 1997.

That implies that the arguable GOP frontrunner for President had committed some sort of conduct that was shady enough to get the FBI to propose an Abscam-like operation to take Gingrich down.

However, that’s not the case at all, but you have to get past the lead paragraph to figure that out:

It is a curious case in the annals of the FBI: The bureau considered a sting operation against then-House Speaker Newt Gingrich after sifting through allegations from a notorious arms dealer that a $10 million bribe might get Congress to lift the Iraqi arms embargo.

The FBI ended up calling off the operation in June 1997. It decided there was no evidence that Gingrich knew anything about the conversations the arms dealer was secretly recording with a man who said he was acting on behalf of Gingrich’s then-wife, Marianne, according to people with knowledge of the investigation.

But details of the case, which became public this week in an article and documents posted online by a nonprofit journalist, show howa series of second- and third-hand conversations alleging that the top man in Congress might be for sale caught the attention of federal investigators.

So, let’s get this straight. The FBI heard second- and third-hand that an arms dealer was bragging about having connections to Gingrich, who would singlehandedly lift the arms embargo on Saddam Hussein’s Iraq, even though the Speaker had very little power to impact it, because a “cooperating witness” told them that he talked to someone who said he was acting on Marianne Gingrich’s behalf. On the basis of this, the FBI thought about doing a “sting” on Gingrich, but passed on it because they had no evidence that Gingrich even knew any of this was taking place.

That took place fourteen years ago. Oddly, it’s just coming to light now, through a website called DC Bureau, which published the story after the death of the “cooperating witness,” convicted felon Sarkis Soghanalian, whom DC Bureau interviewed “several times prior to his death[.]“ It includes Soghanalian’s salacious tidbits about Gingrich and his second wife:

The FBI document states that Soghanalian, Marianne Gingrich, Ash and Bennett spent several days together in Paris. Gingrich said “her relationship with her husband was purely a relationship of convenience,” the document states. “She told [Soghanalian] that she needed her husband for economic reasons, and that he needed to keep her close because she knew of all his ‘skeletons.’?”

“She also told [Soghanalian], ‘It’s time for me to make money using my husband, and after we get started doing this, it will be easy,” the document says.

Marianne Gingrich calls this “hogwash,” and it’s not to difficult to see why. She and Gingrich had been married 14 years by the time of this meeting in 1995, and they’d be divorced five years later, so it doesn’t appear that Gingrich was terribly afraid of “skeletons” nor she of life after divorce. Furthermore, she had a job that paid her well and involved enough trust for her employer to send her to Paris to drum up investment business, which makes the claim that she was so dependent on her husband that she couldn’t afford to leave him look somewhat preposterous. In fact, if you read the DC Bureau’s story, Marianne says that the biggest economic problem in their household was Newt himself, who wasn’t very disciplined about handling the family finances.

At the end of the day, the FBI didn’t commence a sting against Gingrich because they had no evidence that he knew anything about Soghanalian or was taking bribes. Now, suddenly, the documents mysteriously float to the surface 14 years later just as Newt Gingrich rises to the top of the polls (and perhaps as he may be sliding down them a bit).

How did those FBI files, which one would presume would be sealed, and the mysterious Mr. Soghanalian make their way to Joseph Trento, just in time for Gingrich’s presidential run?

Neither report explains how this information magically appeared just as Gingrich’s campaign finally started making traction. And nothing in this story gives any indication that Gingrich was in any way corrupt as Speaker of the House.

This is a non-story. It’s only slightly less egregious than the New York Times’ execrable Vicki Iseman hit job on John McCain just after he cinched the nomination.

It’s a hit job aimed at a Republican candidate that wouldn’t have passed the smell test in a newsroom had the politician in question been a Democrat.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

This is the worst case of 'yellow journalism' I think I have seen to date in this year's campaign coverage.

Don't the MSM have editors with some pride in their profession anymore?

Hit jobs are what they take pride in. They are the measure of respect from the their self-selected insular peers.

It wouldn’t pass the smell test if the politician in question been a Democratbecause the left can’t smell anything beyond the knee deep manure they stand in…

Obama’s people did it. Whenever there’s a candidate he may have to actually run against, sealed files mysteriously open, heretofore long-lost documents magically are found. It’s amazing, really.

“Nonprofit journalist”? Is that supposed to make this story credible?

Good grief…and I thought journalism couldn’t get worse…

Romney Ku Klux Klan Report Backfires on Media

By BRIAN STELTER
thecaucus.blogs.nytimes.com

Don’t just repeat it. Report it.

That’s the lesson this week for MSNBC and for The Washington Post, both of which apologized for repeating a liberal blog’s claim that Mitt Romney had uttered a phrase on the campaign stump that was used in the past by the Ku Klux Klan.

It appears that Mr. Romney did not in fact say the words “keep America American,” as AMERICAblog reported on Tuesday. The blog said that he had done so on two occasions, one last year and one last week, and stated (accurately) that “Keep America American” was a phrase employed by the K.K.K. in the 1920s.

But Mr. Romney had actually said “keep America America” on both occasions, according to online video.

MSNBC apparently did not contact the Romney campaign for comment before it briefly reported on Wednesday morning that “you may not hear Mitt Romney say ‘Keep America American’ anymore, because it was a rallying cry for the K.K.K. group.” The anchor credited AMERICAblog; the graphic on the screen read, “Romney’s KKK Slogan?”

Conservative blogs called out MSNBC for the report, and when executives at MSNBC and NBC News saw that, they were disturbed that the blog’s observation was reported as fact, without any added reporting.

In a statement on Wednesday evening MSNBC said its report was “irresponsible and incendiary” and “showed an appalling lack of judgment.” A Romney campaign spokeswoman said it was pleased that MSNBC had “issued a correction and apology.”

The Washington Post also issued an apology on Thursday for factual mistakes in its blog post about the phrase. The correction stated that it “should have contacted the Romney campaign for comment before publication.

MJ, thanks for that.

The raw hatred for Herman Cain in the youtube comments below the video is typical of the left.

I sincerely hope that he and his family remain an active part of the change to get Obama out of office.

The media took extreme delight in attacking Cain. Of course, the lynchings from the left and from the left in the media won't stop with Cain.

2012 is a political battle for America and I believe the world.

Herman Cain Victim Of Bill And Hillary Clinton's Feminism

by joeclarke Wednesday, November 02, 2011
joeclarke.net

How the press covered for Billy Bob (BJ Clinton) as he was running for President in 1992.

One of Bill Clinton's earliest public lies was made while being interviewed on 60 Minutes back then. "I did not have relations with Gennifer," was his statement,as he sat beside a more naive looking Hillary on the 60 Minutes set. Was that the interview where the stage lighting came crashing down very close to the Liar 'N Chief?

Hillary was nodding her head in agreement with Bill's confession of chastity,
standing by her man, as she was remembering how many times she screamed at him for his many infidelities during his Governorship in Arkansas. The State Highway Patrol had procured many a lady and girl for him, yet the press nodded and winked at Bill's slutty behavior from then on - throughout his career of whore mongering, all the way up to the DNA stained dress of Monica Lewinsky.

In fact, Clinton's ratings rose during his public humiliation, because that's what makes you popular among Democrats - frequent commission of all the Deadly Sins.Bill Clinton owed his wife, Hillary, big time. And, he has paid big time, including knocks on the head from her tossing everything from ash trays to lamps at him.

Gennifer Flowers later produced tape recordings proving his long term affair with her, and he finally admitted to the affair, only when he was providing testimony (he didn't lie in this one) during his defense for groping recently widowed Kathleen Willy.

Not to mention the believable accusations of rape by Betty Broaddrick even later. And, who could not believe Paula Jones, who became all the more believable as the facts (DNA stained dress) discovered in the Monica Lewinsky case seeped out for over two miserable years as suffered by the American public, as well as Bill and Hillary.

Hillary was so adept during the 1992 Presidential campaign in stifling Bill's women from yakking about their affairs through her Operation Bimbo Eruption (strange thing for a feminist lady to call her fellow ladies), which threatened squealers not to talk about their intrigues with husband Bill. Later in Bill's tenure at the Oval Harem, one of his former babes, a Miss America, was so frightened, she fled to Canada. The press, even today, still will never report on Bill's current girlfriends, who seem to get younger and blonder every day.

So, Herman Cain has been accused of something he could barely remember (that is why he initially admitted as to having no knowledge of his Crime of the Century), and the press, even Fox News, has been down his throat like white on rice, not understanding his original ignorance of a twelve year old story, that was not even a story at the time of the sexual harassment allegations by women who originally agreed not to talk about the "incidents," and who are anonymously making the claims.

It is another Anita Hill moment, as we celebrate 20 years since she tried to deep six Clarence Thomas over a hair on a Coke can. Libs cannot stoop too low.

Strangely, as Bill was getting a lot of strangevarieties of women, he was also pushing, back in the 1990's with Hillary's prodding, for the 1994 Violence Against Women Act and other extreme measures which nailed the coffin on men falsely accused of everything from sexual molestation, rape, sexual harassment, and even child abuse. VAWA as it was called, gave ladies such a leg up in the judicial sysystem, that prosecutors could even more easily indict men of the above crimes, as Bill and Hillary's VAWA affirmative action scheme poured billions of dollars into prosecutors' coffers, in order to jail and fine men-accused-by-women like never before. After VAWA was passed sexual harrasment lawsuits tripled. Even against Bill Clinton. Poetic justice?

More and more women and girls could safely come forth and lie their panties off (Duke Rape Case, one of many) and suffer no repercussions for lying and bearing false witness, as it is even today. Since VAWA, women have been given even more inculpability and less responsibility in domestic and criminal courts across the country. I know of cases where men have gone to jail for may years, because of obviously false accusations. Free Tony Cioffi out of Younstown, Ohio is just one of many cases I have been involved with while working in the Prison Ministry. His story is unbelievable. The courts totally bought the story of his wife's accusations during a bitter divorce that he molested his two younger male children, which they recanted years later. The courts do not like to hear recantations. They like to jail. Especially, the lady prosecutors, lady psychologists, lady social workers, lady probation officers, lady judges, and lady lawyers. It started in the Garden of Eden, this enmity between men and women, and Bill Clinton made it worse in many ways.

So Bill and Hillary accelerated the trend of overly protecting girls and women in the judicial system, even while Hillary allowed Bill to freely extort and abuse women at his leisure.

And the press said, and still says, nothing. But Herman Cain . . . . there's a story.

JFK's teen mistress, a WH intern, breaks silence

nypost.com

Four days into her internship, she was invited by an aide to go for a midday swim in the White House pool, where the handsome, 45-year-old president swam daily to ease chronic back pain. JFK slid into the pool and floated up to her.

“It’s Mimi, isn’t it?” he asked.

“Yes, sir,” she said.

“And you’re in the press office this summer, right?”

“Yes, sir, I am,” she replied.

Lightning had struck. Later that day, Mimi was invited by Dave Powers, the president’s “first friend” and later the longtime curator of the Kennedy Library in Boston, to an after-work party. When she arrived at the White House residence, Powers and two other young female staffers were waiting. Powers poured, and frequently refilled, her glass with daiquiris until the commander-in-chief arrived.

The president invited her for a personal tour. She got up, expecting the rest of the group to follow. They didn’t. He took her to “Mrs. Kennedy’s room.”

“I noticed he was moving closer and closer. I could feel his breath on my neck. He put his hand on my shoulder,” she recounts.

The next thing she knew, he was standing above her, looking directly into her eyes and guiding her to the edge of the bed.

“Slowly, he unbuttoned the top of my shirtdress and touched my breasts.

“Then he reached up between my legs and started to pull off my underwear.

“I finished unbuttoning my shirtdress and let it fall off my shoulders.”

Kennedy pulled down his pants but, with his shirt still on, hovered above her on the bed.

He smelled of his cologne, 4711. He paused when he noticed her resisting.

“Haven’t you done this before?” he asked.

“No,” she said.

“Are you OK?” he asked.

Having worked with law enforcement for over 18 years, and observing first hand the use of the voice stress analysis technology as well as conventional polygraph technology, I observed the voice stress analysis testing to be at least as accurate as a polygraph, if not moreso.

Working as a probation/parole officer, it was a normal part of supervision to administer polygraphs to all sex offenders at least once yearly, to help determine their compliance with the conditions of probation. Voice stress analysis tests were also used, on several occasions, especially if an issue surfaced which merited immediate action and a polygraph could not be immediately scheduled.

It was my observation the voice testing equipment produced results which more clearly distinguished a true answer from a false answer, whereas a polygraph required the operator to make the determination as to whether the answers were true or false based in large part on his or her personal judgment. The polygraph equipment often did not clearly distinguish between a lie and the truth, and many answers could not be identified as either the truth or a lie. In other words, the examiner was unable to form an opinion as to the truthfulness of that answer.

Polygraphers will argue the polygraph is more accurate, while personnel using voice stress testing will argue their's is the most accurate. I personally believe the voice stress testing to be the most accurate method of the two, based on the follow-up interviews I conducted with examinees and my own investigation of the matters in dispute.

If Cain 'passed' a voice stress analysis, then I would have to accept his answers as being true, especially since his accusers did not 'pass' the analysis.

I have long held the opinion the main stream media, the democrats, and even republicans wanted Cain 'out of the way', and used every tool at their disposal to accomplish that goal. When the term "high tech lynching' is used, I sincerely believe that is exactly what we witnessed concerning Herman Cain.

It is my opinion he instilled fear in the hearts of the 'insider' crowd that he had a very strong chance of being elected and that he would upset their apple cart once he got in the White House. Therefore they could not afford to let him establish any sort of foothold in the 2012 presidential race.

Yes - and the leftist media, along with the insider politicians (on both sides) executed a very coordinated and well timed attack against Mr. Cain, the only 'outsider' to come along lately and actually pose a real threat to the 'elite' insiders.

I too believe this election will turn out to be the most important one in our lifetime. And the insiders have managed to get things all lined up in their favor. I knew, from the start, from the way the media was 'pushing' Romney as the Republican candidate, the outcome had already been determined.

Herman stepped in, and got in their way ... so they cut him off at the knees.

It's always the empty barrels that make the most noise.

Obama runs on "If you don't voted for me you are a racist."

He couldn't use that if Cain was his opponent.

That's why they were terrified of Cain.

For a similar reason they are very afraid of Rubio, since the democrats have never run a Hispanic for either president or vice president.
