Shipments of touch panels for Kindle Fire increasing, say sources

Yenting Chen, Taipei; Steve Shen, DIGITIMES [Wednesday 19 October 2011]

Shipments of touch panels for Amazon's Kindle Fire tablets are likely to reach a monthly average of 1.5 million units in October and November due to strong pre-sales orders, according to sources in the supply chain.

Total shipments of Kindle Fire tablets are expected to reach 4.5-5 million units by the end of 2011, compared to four million units predicted previously, the sources indicated.

Taiwan-based Wintek and JTouch are the two main suppliers of touch modules for Kindle Fire, with Wintek's shipments likely to reach one million units in October, up from 400,000-500,000 units shipped in September, revealed the sources.

JTouch's shipments of touch modules will top 400,000-500,000 units in October, the sources added.

Amazon is reportedly also developing an 8.9-inch tablet PC scheduled to be rolled out in the second half of 2012, in addition to the planned launch of a 10.1-inch model, codenamed Coyote, in the first half of the year, the sources noted.

With Amazon Kindle Fire pre-sales skyrocketing, and along with the Nexus Prime, Android 4.0 and penta-core ASUS Transformer Prime tablets, stealing sales from CRAPpe in the all important Q4, Apple is hosed for Q4 with sales nosediving across the board.... and the iPhone4Sux having battery drain, reception and heat issues is not helping either... expect another miss in the January report...

Days before Kindle Fire

Transformer 2, or whatever Asus calls its Tegra 3 based next generation Transformer tablet is coming on November 9th.

In Europe this date spells much like 911 as we write days then month and year in most parts. Well Asus
obviously didn't considered that and its

Asus chairman Johnny Shih announced the launch at the AsiaD conference, so it’s pretty safe to assume that this is the roughly the launch window for the new Tegra 3 based processor as well.

He calls it Transformer Prime, and is proud to tell the world that the new tablet is just 8.3mm thick, which is some 0.3 millimetre thinner than Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1. Shih has confirmed the quad-core Nvidia chipset, 10-inch format, USB and mini HDMI connectivity, along with and SD port for expansion. This doesn't come as a surprise as the old Transformer has all that, with an exception of quad core CPU.

Johnny Shih also motioned that PadPhone, a phone that plugs in to tablet goes to carrier testing around Q1 2012 and will have Ice Cream Sandwich on it. He also mentioned that the original Transformer might get an Ice Cream Sandwich update before the end of the year, which is good news for current users.

Good. That should lower Apple's margins even further as people go for the free 3GS instead of higher margined and battery draining 4Sux.... and as margins go down so does the PPS... LMFAO... too funny...

AT&T has activated more than 1 million iPhone 4S's as of Tuesday.

The nation's second largest carrier announced the massive number on Thursday and said that the iPhone 4S has been its "most successful iPhone launch in the company's history."

To put that in a bit of context, Apple said on Monday that the iPhone 4S sold more than 4 million units worldwide over its Friday-Saturday-Sunday launch last weekend.

That set a sales record for iPhones over a three-day launch period.

Apple margins on the low-cost 3 GS are fine.

What it means is that a two generations old iPhone is outselling Androids at T.
