Shipments of touch panels for Amazon's Kindle Fire tablets are likely to reach a monthly average of 1.5 million units in October and November due to strong pre-sales orders, according to sources in the supply chain.
Total shipments of Kindle Fire tablets are expected to reach 4.5-5 million units by the end of 2011, compared to four million units predicted previously, the sources indicated.
Taiwan-based Wintek and JTouch are the two main suppliers of touch modules for Kindle Fire, with Wintek's shipments likely to reach one million units in October, up from 400,000-500,000 units shipped in September, revealed the sources.
JTouch's shipments of touch modules will top 400,000-500,000 units in October, the sources added.
Amazon is reportedly also developing an 8.9-inch tablet PC scheduled to be rolled out in the second half of 2012, in addition to the planned launch of a 10.1-inch model, codenamed Coyote, in the first half of the year, the sources noted. |
