The gold production was announced on Feb 2, so the y/y numbers shouldn't be a surprise. Consequently, the earnings miss has to have come from margins, and that's what's lumpy in this business.

New Afton doesn't surprise me at all. I'm not an expert, but I believe full production in August after starting in June is pretty damn good and the best that can be expected. It takes a while for costs to come down.

You have to buy the good miners when news is bad. If I didn't own so much I'd add some here.

My one concern is the stock market. it's due to get blasted, and when that happens everything will get hit. I got stopped out of all my futures and other miners two days ago. I'm saving my dry powder for when the stock market gets whacked.

Thank you for the education.. I have heard of channel stuffing, mostly in the PC realm I believe.....just never really understood what it meant....

Sighhhhh as if I wasn't cynical enough!!!!!! : )

I figured the numbers were particularly rosy as it helps O with his bailout talk and continuous campaigning so he can give michele some more free vacations for another 4 years.

Thanks for the info....i am just trying to learn as I go along

Any comments on this chart?

Is it about Apple? Or is the tech sector really doing that well?

As salt scandal grows, serious doubts about food safety in Poland.

In a prime-time investigative program aired on Sunday, journalists of an independent Polish television station TVN presented evidence of industrial salt - obtained as a waste by-product of calcium chloride production and containing dangerous carcinogens - being sold wholesale to the food industry as edible salt.

According to information obtained by TVN following a 6-month long investigation, three Polish businesses, over a period of as long as 10 years, have been purchasing 1000 tons per month of industrial salt, labeled as a waste product allowed to be used only for de-icing of roads or in chemical industry, from one of the largest fertilizer producers in Poland - Anwil S.A. After repackaging, it was being resold as edible salt to numerous meat and fish processing plants, bakeries and wholesalers.

Independent laboratory tests have confirmed this salt - commonly called a road salt and used for de-icing of roads and sidewalks in winter - to be harmful if consumed, containing toxic compounds that in a human body can produce carcinogenic dioxins.

As a result, tens of thousands of tons of toxic and carcinogenic unedible salt have been introduced into the food supply in Poland. An investigation has been launched and arrests have already been made, but the Polish government still has not released any information about food processing plants that ended up buying unedible salt and specific products that might have been contaminated as a result

I think they've always had mid 2012 as target for first pour at New Afton, and that's at 6600 tons/dy processed. Makes sense it would take some months to get that all the way up to the 11,000 level. And the production is what impacts the margin expected for NA for 2012.

No matter to me, the longer the gold sits there, the more it will be worth when they do pull it out (thanks, Ben!). The rest was noise, they missed by a penny due to some minor ore grade problems combined with higher costs for fuel. As long as NA comes on as expected and El Morro/Blackwater exploration and development continue smoothly I see NGD as wildly undervalued. By a factor of 5-10.

I bought more today, and have orders in to sell some nekkid poots as well.
