rzborusa, Bottled water will never replace the canteen.

Are you a 3D TV owner by any chance?

Peace,
El Toro

I don't understand glasses based 3D. So far the glasses free one don't work for wide viewing positions, hence don't work the way TV's are use, i.e. multiple people watching together. However, they should work well with future tablets because of the use method. So I think the future of 3D is more with mobile gadgets, although PC's could benefit as well, and it must be glasses free.

Watch and see. You and SL can of course deny reality as long as you like...

So the last few days of AMD stock action has me quite surprised.

Given the recent stories of later than expected Trinity, Intel's Romley Xeon release wiping the floor in every which way, and not even a mouse of a leak about what the Piledriver revision is going to do for the Opteron, this stock should be going in the opposite direction.

As I recall, the whole AMD story for 2012 was that this was going to be the year that the APU strategy started to bring in the dough. But I'm not so sure anymore.

So what is it that we don't know? Is this a delayed reaction to Seamicro?

There was some noise about GloFo process improvements. Not sure that is in the critical path, but it might be a good excuse.

I think the general market anti-gravitation effect, plus Read appears to be willing to think outside the box a bit, and AMD does have a lowish P/E. But, yeah, I agree with you that i don't think 2012 is going to be magically good for AMD, sans something unforeseen happening. Overall PC growth is projected to be poor, the mobile gadget onslaught will continue, AMD looks weak in servers, IB will bump the level of pain against most AMD offerings, GPU's as a standalone market are shrinking and that should get noticeably worse after IB ships. Against that we have AMD with good products in the lower end of the notebook space. But even the notebook space will see pressure because of Intel's attempts at pushing Ultrabooks.

So if AMD was yield constrained in 2011, and yields have improved nicely at GF as rumored, then AMD might find itself customers constrained in 2012. TWT.

Someone dumb enough to think consumers are just chomping at the bit to play gimped versions of Half Life 3 and Doom 4 on a weak arse tablet.

The future of gaming must be ANGRY BIRDS. LOL!!!!!

Makes you wonder though, if they do come out with an iTV, will that be the beginning of the end of the console market?

Playing games is about fashion. Consoles are headed towards unfashionable, as the article noted. I don't expect you to spot any trends ahead of time, or indeed to realize you are in the midst of one, or even to see it in retrospect when it has long passed you by.

I was reminded of this the other day when I talked with a Prof at a local university. A student came in while I was visiting, and I mentioned something that they should consider. The student made a short note of it on his smartphone, while the Prof wrote it down in ye olde style lab notebook. The world changes over time...

I never understood why billions of hours were wasted playing Nintendo Game Boys, but I do know that modern mobile gadgets can provide the same take it with you appeal, while combining the realism of PC/Console gaming. Its not hard to anticipate who wins this round.
