AKLM reported a -1.09 per shr loss this last quarter (yesterday). Blew everybody's estimates, -0.37, out of the water; but price has remained above $4. I was suprised on both counts; i.e., size of loss and strength of stock. As I said, the target on AKLM is $6-$8. This is based on $85M in sales this Christmas, which is what everybody is looking at when they buy AKLM, not past quarters as some threadsters would have you believe.
Acclaim rose to fame on Mortal Kombat. At one time it traded in the $28-32 range and was on the Nasdaq 100 list. They bet last Christmas on 16-bit games and lost to 32-bit and 64-bit games. As such they've been hammered. Turok was their first N64 release which did well, but it couldn't carry the company. Their new games just released for N64 are NFL Quarterback Club 98 and Extreme G. They will release Riven for Playstation this month. Someone yesterday on CNBC included Riven in its list of best selling toys this Christmas--thus Acclaim has a chance of several best sellers this quarter. |
