wonder if this long standing strategy would stop working, because "everyone knows" about it, or it is easier to trade poolside now, ;) so no need to sell ?

Very good question, but just looking over the data of the past 10 to 15 years, I see no meaningful difference between the most recent 15 years and the first 15 years... so, I don't know really what makes this phenomenon happen, but it seems to be highly reliable over all those years... certainly, if I get a sell signal soon, then I would think it could be a real doozy...

<<historic market data>>

Historically we have never had a president like this one running for reelection.

No sell in May effect during election years according to CNBC.

The biggest catalyst to stay with the market this year is the breakout in financials and technology. The heavy distribution of financials from 5 years ago is wearing off this year with a solid breakout in EPS for the big banks next quarter.

13 quarters of lower loan losses for US banks were skewered last year by 1 time charges for elevated expenses. Next quarter, expenses will be getting closer to normal levels which will finally demonstrate the EPS of the banks.

PS: Just went long 50% more.....gulp

Thanks for the info, it could be, I don't demand that the market go down, I'm just trading the tape at the moment... we could just as easily zoom higher tomorrow... but I'll give it another 45 minutes to see... if I'm sitting with a profit, then I'll hold and wait for tomorrow... at this moment, I'm still okay... (gulp)...<g>

Here's the actual data, which I believe is accurate, you can check it yourself against what they say...

The only real bad May-Oct periods during election years were '56 and '08, and '08 sucked all around.

Today, I see the RUT, the NAZ, and the SOX all hitting new lows right into the close... I expect to see further downside tomorrow, of course that's just a hunch, but I'm holding my short since I have some breathing room... I also suspect we'll see gold begin to make its move higher now, as well...
