Public Service Announcement

I posted this link a few weeks back....I don't know if anybody looked at it.

hint.fm

I have been looking at it frequently and checking out the wind patterns across the United States. If you have any interest in weather, I think some of the views are pretty awesome.

Also, here's another link I use frequently.

radar.weather.gov

It's the NWS radar loop for the whole US.

Just click on your area and it show your local area radar.

Notice how the Rockies have a major influence on the wind patterns?

When I was a practicing silviculturist I could count on a certain ridge in the west Cascades changing the weather patterns enough that it made a difference in what I prescribed.

By the way, some guy from NASA said there were big clearcuts on the crest of the Cascades that would ne ver regenerate. He was wrong. we had prescribed what's called a shelterwood cut, and that facilitated regeneration where a clearcut would have failed.

Carl Sagan came to Portland, the forestry capital of the world, and said 'cutting trees was dumb.' He died before finding out how wrong he was.

>>> So, would I short them now on my astute and keen observations?

I shorted it one time back in the 90s when they were on the ropes. I was long from 16 to 30 and went short at 30 and actually made money on both sides of the trade.

There ought to be a rule, though --"Never short anything that has a hundred billion in cash."

One day they are going to miss on earnings and some people are going to get creamed. But believing TV is just around the corner for them, there is just no way I could short them now. If they just happen to have TV in time for Christmas, watch out, 'cause they'll be at 800 or higher.

We had a talk at the Republican Cub today from a mining specialist and a DC guy who represented 5 mines. And a state rep who has 2 forest degrees. (Did you know they are drilling core samples in east Lewis County?) Anyway they all said Washington was - finally - getting it: forests going back to timber management and revenue from that, not bugs and all the other stuff.

That's good news to me! As a wilderness enthusiast, I believe in forestry where forestry is best and wilderness where wilderness is best. Usually it is easy to tell the difference, unless you are a zealot.

The man mentioned even Harry Reid gets it. I'm a little skeptical on that one.

There's not much forests in Nevada though...
