I stopped 20 mg. of Lipitor a month ago. I was sore everywhere. Cq10Q didn't help.

I feel ten years younger since I stopped. this is the second time this has happened to me. The first time I went to Vytorin from Lipitor, and it was better, as far as soreness was concerned, but then the doctor switched me back to Lipitor when the news came out that Vytorin might be ineffective.

I feel so much better not taking Lipitor.

Good for you. I have mixed feelings about Statins. I tend to agree with Dr Davis that they are the "work of the Devil." But he does prescribe Crestor to his patients when he thinks it necessary.

I have been off Simvastatin for about two months. I decided yesterday to go back on with an "every other day" dose of 20 mg, backed up by CoQ10. I proved to my satisfaction that CoQ10 works for me. I will continue, unless I get side effects, until I have a NMR readout of my LDL. My last calculated LDL in October was 90. That is low, but probably mainly small LDL. The NMR test will tell me for sure. I am waiting to see if I can get the test paid for by Kaiser. If not, I will order it online and get a draw at a local lab.

I don't know the answer. On one hand, anything that can give you liver failure can't be good for you. OTOH, there are the positive medical studies indicating it is good for you, even if you don't have high cholesterol.

At the same time, the drug companies are pushing statins mercilessly. All I know is the overall soreness was like being hungover every morning without the pleasure of the bender the night before.

Right now it's a miracle how much better I feel not taking Lipitor.

Sorry to hear about all the bad experiences with statins. I have been fortunate to not have had the side effects. I have been taking statins for at least 5 years. I was on Lipitor and last year was switched to Crestor and just 2 weeks ago was upped to 40mg. No side effects yet. I am not sore, I am happy, my mind works pretty well for a 70y/o. One side bar for the latter is that I take Provigil for a sleep issue and it is the greatest legal drug I have ever taken. If you are having trouble thinking clearly, find a way to get it prescribed for you.

Thanks. I have been on and off Lipitor for a good five years. the soreness comes on slow and builds. I did better on Vytorin, before they knocked it out. If I go to the doc, he'll just put me on another statin. My cholesterol has been just above average without a statin anyway. The hesitation is they're recommending it for everyone now, pushed by the drug companies. And I feel a lot better laying off it for a while.

I will keep an eye on muscle soreness with my recent increase to 40mg of Crestor. I was also on Vytorin after Lipitor and before Crestor. I could tell no difference tween em. My bloodwork is generally ok but I had a rise in LDL on the last check. I will retest in 3 months and if there is no change in LDL or increase of HDL, I will drop back to the 20mg. It was my internist that reco'd the 40mg of crestor. My Cardiologist last week was not impressed and said it was a big dose and ok if I could tolerate it.
By the way, I think I am doing better on BP since I started taking the baby aspirin at night. The cardiologist said that I no longer had Essential Hypertension. I think I am just going to have him review my test stuff from now on. I already reported that he was a fan of D3.

Dr Davis has repeatedly said that almost no one can stay on a 40 mg dose of Crestor for long without side effects. I suggest you get some CoQ10 to take with it.
