NFC:
2012 NFC draft grades: Defensive-minded Eagles, Packers earn high marks

Grade: A-
Analysis: The Eagles made a wise trade to move up from No. 15 to No. 12 to nab Cox, one of the more versatile defensive linemen in the draft and a guy who automatically improves the run defense. Kendricks and Curry were taken with the same mission in mind after the Eagles defense was basically a running gag throughout the 2011 season. After dealing with those needs, the Eagles then picked up a pair of great values in Foles and Boykin. Foles has all the physical tools to be a terrific player and is going to a coach in Andy Reid who can harness those gifts. Foles should be ready to either take over for Michael Vick when Vick is done or be a good piece of trade bait in the future. Like Foles, Boykin has a lot of tools at a premium position.
Giants got a C+ Cowboys a B and Redskins a B-

i will talk of Dion Lewis later, i want to see his stats for last year--- just did, he was 4.4 per carry, but he simply got near zero chances--let's see what he does pre-season. Bryce Brown pick is a pick of an unknown that in HS was rated the 2nd best prospect in the country behind Trent Richardson--but played only one year---long story--no injuries involved.(Switch schools, yada yada.

Jerry i think it is time we give the Phils credit for True Grit.(given No Howard and No Utley) They took 2 of 3 in Atlanta in spite of Roy Halladay having as bad a game he will have--losing 15-13 in 11 innings)
Blanton has pitched his 2nd SUPERB game on the season today--winning 4-0.
RedSox i think are wishing they had signed Pabelbon--as he leads the majors in saves 9 for 9.
We are now 13-13, and 6 of are last 9.

But we lose tomorrow; Strasbourg ERA 1.12 Kendrick ERA 6.98--o my! why play--hopefully Lee if back , and this the last of Kendrick as a starter

I totally agree. The bats are coming around and the pitching is holding up well enough, although Halladay is starting to worry me a little. He was pitching well and then just plain and simply, fell apart. Lots of singles found holes and then a grand slam. He's now 3-3, not a typical start to the season for Roy.

I'm not giving up on tonight's game even though the pitching doesn't look very well matched. We may still have a chance. Maybe Strasbourg will have a game like Halladay did!

Kendrick said about the game "Yup, it the a of two aces going at each other" and gave a LOL!
He says , he always go out hoping to just give the team a chance.
Regards the Halladay game, i think one factor is you never ever want to have McCann at bat with the bases loaded--It's that Halladay got McCann at bat with basesloaded--tha's the rub, as last thing Roy wanted was that--McCann one of best of getting the big hit that breaks a game.
It was, i gather stinky and humid that night in Atlanta---it seems everytime he falls apart there is heat and humidity involved. i think someone need make sure Halladay is keeping hydrated---his feinting spell last year should have beeen a major warning, he can't handle heat---
Dubee has now identified two pitchers i think loses speed and sharpness when dehydrated--Halladay and Bastardo.
i am NOT worried but his arm, but i am worried he doesn't know how to keep hydrated--- in heat humidity situations he needs Gatorade by his side.
i worked 3 summers in the HOTTEST part of a Steel Mill---the key is to be preventative, i know---for if you get to the weakening point, it is too late to hydrate and keep working--you have got to ahead of the game--i took salt tablets and water bigtime from start to finish--man you sweat so hard, you can need a constant inflow.
Halladay need have the body cells saturated BEFORE he pitches.
Again we have a guy, like Utley, that is so focused on will power and think getting really conscious of his electrolytes and water is SISSY stuff.
Dubee said Halladay was showing the signs of heat/arm fatigue combo---Dubee best be not nice about it, and makes sure Halladay is taking preventive action in hot weather.
i know too many people that are "ah i don't need that stuff" not knowing cellular fluid pressure is the key to a tired or strong arm.Max p.s. he has blown 4 run leads 9 times in his career, i think-- so i would love to see what HeatIndex was in all those games.

Well Halladay is looking good tonight, a cooler night. He is breathing through his nose and not his mouth!

I don't know why Hamels had to admit that he hit the new kid on the block on purpose. He only brought retribution on himself. It's what has gone on in baseball forever. It is well known that plunking someone is part of the game, there is the revenge hit batter, and then we go on. But because he admits that he did it, he is under the gun. Hamels was HBP in retalliation, which was extremely obvious to anyone who watched the game, but because THAT pitcher didn't admit to it, he goes free. If Hamels hadn't admitted to it, it would have been a non-event.

I know there is a lot of sports injury news lately, more so in football then anywhere, but is this in that category? He didn't throw at his head and didn't intend to injure. I guess there is something to be said for the light 'sentence', but there should have been none at all. It is only because he admitted to doing it.

I don't know if this has more to do with political correctness or the aforementioned sensitivity to sports injuries, but I suspect the former more than the latter.

The NL Divisional Standings tell the hard truth; Nl East at this point has demonstrated is quite the TOUGHER division and we the ONLY sub .500 team in that division-why: The other 4 teams are better than the Phils minus Howard and Utley.
NL East win/loss differential is +15 NL Central -7 NL West -10 that works NL East leads by 11 games and the NL West by +12.5. It is amazing, but at this point 3 of the 5 playoff teams at end of regular season will be from NL-East and Phillies will NOT be one of them
That NL-East division lead demonstrates it is the power division, only Dodgers and Cardinals could compete in it.
If it wasn;t for Werth having broken his hand, i would have picked Washington D.C. to have a team in WS for the first time in 88years(1924), this the longest time for any MLB city not to have a team in the WS.
i now see our division TOO TOUGH for us to did out of our hole. We frankly would need a 10 game win streak, or say a 16-4 run--but the competion is better than us now. Mets now are 4-1 against us--and i don't what has changed the team, but their record thus far has been earned.Max

I haven't given up completely but I don't feel good about what's going on. We need a few more hitters to wake up (Rollins, Victorino, Galvis, if that's possible). We aren't that far behind and unless a team comes out of the gate and never looks back, most teams have an ebb and flow due to slumps, injuries or just plain team funk. I think the Phillies will get better, but how much better remains to be seen. We are up against a lot as you said since this is a very good division this year. I don't know what happened with the Mets but it's working out for them so far. It could happen to our team too. We have a chance, but I think it's a slim one.

The Nationals are a contender for sure with a very young, talented team, kind of like the Phils were a few years back. It's hard not to like this team and their story.

You've called this a lost season and I tend to agree with you, but I'm not throwing in the towel yet, as frustrating as it is to watch them fall apart during a game.

Always a ray of hope--yes:) One thing in terms of bats, i hate to think where we would be now if we had not signed Nix/Wiggington and Pierre--but they all are fielding downgrade. Manuel is showing loss of confidence in Bullpen by keeping Blanton in too long in inning he gave up 4 runs. Qualls has been slipping, Contreras already just a 40 year old hanging on--i like to see what are relief pitching ERA stands with rest of league--i'd be surprised if it wasn't in the lower 1/2 at least. Later,Max

Our bullpen isn't much and I'm sure Manuel knows it, and it's ERA is going down again after Kendrick puts in his time on the mound tonight.

gees he only gave up 5 runs in in 1 inning and a 2nd inning where he got no one out and was pulled.

1.04552002.037.32
that 4 hits 5 runs 2 walks--and score was 4-2 when Kendricks got the ball Relief pitching gave 8 runs in last 3 innings.
Kendricks has never learned how to be consistent---he is so sour now he remains on team only because we have nobody else. Sutes and Herndon are DL.
On basis of we have nothing to lose, i would dump Kendricks and Contreras and Herndon--and just throw and decide on the three best in ML(that includes Savery and Schwimmer up now, and Aumont) (who had to throw 70 pitches in one game because Charlie had used all his relief pitchers except Pabelbon), and just throw them into the fire. Max
