RE:"Did you say the same thing about GW Bush (and his lieutenants) when he was in power?"

Broken Clock sure did. He's NO fan of GWB for sure.

But Obama is the current guy in the WH.

Interesting comment at tpm.com

If you assume all Catholic employees of a Catholic organization are, in fact "Good Catholics" then why does it matter if their health insurance is obliged to provide birth control? Good Catholics won't request it from their health care provider in the first place!

Doonsbury:

interviewer: "Dr. Paul, your candiacy defies understanding.

Paul: "excuse me?

I: While everyone shares some of your views, very few people share all of them. The fact is your philosophy is utopianism, no modern society could function under a libertarian gvoernment, which is why none exists.

Paul: "is there a question there?"

I: "No, what would be the point"?

A new enthusiasm gap

By Steve Benen
-
Wed Feb 8, 2012 12:30 PM EST

It was hard to avoid discussion of the "enthusiasm gap" in 2010, when excitement among Republican voters easily trumped Democratic zeal, en route to major GOP gains in the midterm cycle.

As attention shifts to the 2012 cycle, the Republican advantage seems to have largely disappeared. In fact, a new report from Public Policy Polling suggests it's Democrats who enjoy the enthusiasm edge.

...Democrats are now more excited about voting this fall than Republicans are, reversing the enthusiasm gap that plagued the party in 2010.

Our last national survey for Daily Kos found that 58% of Democrats were 'very excited' about voting this fall, compared to 54% of Republicans. Six months ago the figures were 48% of Democrats 'very excited' and Republicans at the same 54%. Generally you would expect voters to get more excited as the election gets nearer. That trend is occurring on the Democratic side, but not for the GOP.

Here's that breakdown in chart form:

Also note how this dovetails with the turnout troubles Republicans have had for nearly all of their presidential nominating contests thus far.

Taken together, the wave of excitement GOP officials hoped to ride to 2012 triumphs not only appears to have crested; it seems to now be moving in the opposite direction. Democratic voters, meanwhile, appear to be increasingly eager to vote after having gotten a good look at the GOP presidential contenders.

I don't know if you all have heard about what happened here this past weekend. On Sunday, a father who is suspected of murdering his wife killed his two sons and then committed suicide. The kids were on a court order visit when he grabbed the kids from the social worker and then blew up the house:

I don't think I have felt quite so much anger and dispair over such a senseless and selfish killing.

I agree with you zeta, including "..the Republicans grasping at straws..." Just on a side note, I am not a Christian but I went to a Catholic school (Jesuits) all my life. I am very familiar with Catholicism, had the luck of kissing Pope Paul VI ring during his visit to my school in 1965. And I have visited the Vatican. So I am aware of how the church preaches what they preach and the hypocricy there. I think we should leave the Catholics to settle that with their church and the US President should not get involved, whether it is Obama or anyone else

If that is so, then all privileges given to a religious institutions should be taken away. I think a priest has absolutely no business to talk politics except to pray for the welfare of the nation and its leaders. It should be applicable for all religious denominations including Islam.

I visit multi denominational places of worship. The most political speech I have heard there is when the followers are prosecuted for their religious beliefs. And I am all for that. But to call political figures evil is preposterous. In the case of this Bishop, he needs to look inside first, the Catholic church where there still exists predatory behavior and sodomy.

Here he goes again. Dirt in politics. He needs to be shut down completely for his dirty tactics. America has this golden opportunity to clean their politics and rid such folks.

Weekly jobless claims is the big number for markets Thursday, as Greece edges closer to a rescue package.

The weekly unemployment claims data at 8:30 a.m. EST is always important, but it is of special interest this week after the January employment report showed surprising momentum in job creation and a decline in the unemployment rate to 8.3 percent. Wholesale trade data for December is also reported at 10 a.m.
