I hear that LSI was upgrd to $100 is this an old news ?
>>>>>

From today's MorganStanley DeanWitter report:

Our target price of $100 per share
assumes the stock can trade at a premium to the S&P
Industrials? multiple.

...We expect LSI?s multiple to expand as
investors become more comfortable with the company?s end
market exposure and strong earnings momentum story.

...LSI?s top-tier
customer base is focused on adding value to networking,
broadband communications, computer, and digital consumer
products. They use LSI?s ASICs and ASSPs to provide the
necessary product performance and differentiation. In
support of the Internet, LSI?s ASICs and ASSPs are used in
settop boxes, routers, switches, DSL equipment, storage
systems, high-speed input/output devices, servers, and many
other types of networking hardware.

...We believe many of LSI?s ASSPs
set price/performance standards for the industry, and may
also be available as cores for higher-level integration by
LSI?s ASIC customers.

Sony Unveils Pact With Palm, Shows Off New Tech Toys/PS2

LAS VEGAS (Reuters) - Consumer electronics company Sony Corp (NYSE:SNE - news)...

>>...Sony's president and chief executive Nobuyuki Idei gave a keynote address at Comdex, one of the industry's biggest shows, where he talked about Sony's three gateways into the networked society -- the Sony Vaio personal computer family, the set-top box and its new video gaming console, the Playstation2.

''Some call Sony a hardware company, some call it a media company,'' Idei said. ''What we are and what we will be is a broadband entertainment company.''

Sony said that it will be the new Sony Playstation, which will be launched in Japan next March and in the U.S. and Europe in the fall of 2000, that will be the driver for higher speed network access in the home, referred to as broadband.

''We believe it is the Playstation2 and its compelling software which will accelerate the deployment of broadband networks into consumers homes,'' said Kazuo Hirai, the president of Sony Computer Entertainment America. ''We are poised to take this to the next level of entertainment.''

Sony did a demonstration of the new Playstation2, which is in a sleek black box, showing clips from video games where in a car race, the graphics are so high performance that they simulated a visible heat haze from the cars driving around the racetrack. Another game, called Dark Cloud, showed the hair and the clothes of the boy character blowing in the wind.

Sony's Idei also noted that the U.S. is behind Japan and Europe, which have a considerable lead in the deployment of high-speed networks to the home.

He also hinted that Sony may have a challenger to Nintendo Co. Ltd.'s popular Pokemon game characters.

''I hate to mention that Pokemon is very popular in this country,'' Idei said, adding that he thinks the Sony Playstation team will fight back with another character.<<

Starting with the potential of a recovery last Jan. to now being able to see all the real drivers for this recovery, I think we'll see the 'obscene' profits around Q1/Q2 in '00, depending on which company we are talking about.

I look for LSI to be at $100 by Q2 '00 conf. call. and at $140 by Jan '01.

patrick

PS Are you still planning on selling at $75? Also, did you see that Comdex article on the HP Dick Tracy watch - cooperation with Swatch for a net-accessing watch!

That watch sounds like just the thing I need for my bike! I have a Swiss Army watch on my handlebars now .......very basic......but if this market keeps treating me right I will be able to upgrade to a Dick TracE! Swatch for sure.

Re: LSI Although 76 is my next target area I may not sell there. I might just hold.....will have to see what the stock looks like if/when it gets there.....targets can change.

LSI Logic First to Achieve Rambus Gold Partnership Status

Achievement Affirms LSI Logic's World Leadership in High-Speed I/O

MILPITAS, Calif., Nov. 16 /PRNewswire/ -- LSI Logic Corporation
(NYSE: LSI), The System on a Chip Company, announced today that it is the
first company to achieve Gold ASIC Support Partnership status for its Direct
Rambus(TM) ASIC Cell (RAC). This Gold Partnership status recognizes LSI
Logic's comprehensive capabilities in supporting Rambus(R)-based designs and
assures customers that LSI Logic is a proven choice for ASIC solutions based
on the Rambus core.

"LSI Logic has leveraged its high-speed I/O expertise to provide its
customers with complete and comprehensive support for Rambus ASICs," said
Subodh Toprani, Vice President, Logic Products Division, Rambus Inc.
(Nasdaq: RMBS) "Through our long relationship with LSI Logic, they have
demonstrated exceptional ability in developing and supporting Rambus
technology and we're very pleased to recognize their commitment by awarding
them Gold Partner status."

LSI Logic's Rambus RAC core is characterized in silicon to Rambus' full
800 MHz operating speed. In addition, LSI Logic offers customers seamless
support for developing Rambus-based ASICs. The Rambus RAC is part of LSI
Logic's CoreWare(R) library and comes with a complete set of deliverables for
integrating the core into an ASIC. To support customers with the design of
their ASICs, LSI Logic provides both field engineers to assist with the
integration of the Rambus RAC and high-speed signal integrity experts to
assist in package selection and board layout.

"We have a long-term partnership with Rambus and being the first to
achieve Gold ASIC Support Partnership for the Rambus RAC affirms our expertise
in Rambus design implementation," said Hugh Durdan, Vice President and General
Manager of LSI Logic's Computer Division. "LSI Logic is a recognized ASIC
leader in high speed I/O interfaces and the Rambus core is an important
component of our portfolio."

With signal pin rates of up to 800 megabits per second, a single Direct
Rambus memory Channel uses a two-byte wide data path to achieve peak data
rates of 1.6 gigabytes per second and is one of the highest performance memory
interfaces available. Combining high bandwidth and extremely low pin-count,
Rambus technology addresses the high-speed memory requirements for a range of
applications from consumer electronics to high-performance computer desktop
systems. When integrated into an ASIC, the Rambus RAC provides a physical
layer interface to a Rambus Channel.

LSI Logic's portfolio of high-speed I/O technologies also includes the
GigaBlaze(R) core for standards compliant multi-gigabit serial interconnects
and the HyperPHY(TM) core for multi-gigabyte backplane interconnects. These
cores may be combined with the Rambus RAC core on ASICs requiring high-speed
I/O and a high performance Rambus memory channel interface. Additionally, LSI
Logic offers a full line of high-performance I/O buffers such as CPU bus,
SDRAM, PCI, and AGP buffers to meet customer's system requirements.

Paul, thanks for those two articles. I really like the way LSI always seems to be developing new chips for hot new markets...CDMA, Linux SCSI, Rambus. And, they always seem to be able to get them out there at just the right time, when the market is ready to become a serious one.
