Stock continues to move up nicely -- however, without some partnership announcement in the near future we could have a 'pause to refresh.' A new 52 week high today!

UPDATE 1-Nektar to supply polymer to Amgen, to get $50 mln
8:01 am ET 11/02/2010 - Reuters
* Nektar to get $50 mln

* Says to manufacture and supply its polymer materials

* Says Amgen has no minimum purchase commitments

Nov 2 (Reuters) - Nektar Therapeutics <NKTR.O> said it has entered into a non-exclusive agreement to manufacture and supply proprietary polymer material to biotech firm Amgen Inc <AMGN.O>.

As per the agreement signed last Friday, Nektar will receive $50 million from Amgen for the supply of certain quantities of polymer material, used in many applications from industrial manufacturing to medicine.

Nektar said in case it fails to supply the required materials, Amgen will have the right to access the facility for the purpose of manufacturing the polymer material solely.

Amgen has no minimum purchase commitments and Nektar is entitled to receive additional payments if Amgen orders more than specified quantities.

Nektar's shares, which have gained about 50 percent since it reported promising results of its experimental ovarian cancer drug in January, closed at $14.63 Monday on Nasdaq. (Reporting by Krishnkali Sengupta in Bangalore;Editing by Prem Udayabhanu)

NKTR will have a presentation tomorrow(Sunday 12-12) beginning at 9:00a.m.(Central) where they will share new data from their breast cancer program. This will come from the San Antonio Breast Cancer conference.......several of the major pharmas have announced disappointing trial results at the conference.......one can hope that NKTR will break this trend!

And no partnership deal for NKTR-102:

"Shares of Nektar Therapeutics fell Monday after the biotechnology company said it will continue developing its cancer treatment NKTR-102 by itself instead of seeking a partner."

The CEO really threw us a curve ball, after being so forceful about doing a partnership deal. The data did appear to be good and improving from earlier data, however, short-term this decision to go it alone will put a damper on the stock. If the drug is a good as it appears(but sure is early data to put blockbuster by their name)then the decision to keep full control will be the wise option, but keeping their pipeline moving forward will require additional dilution.......ARRRGGGGH!

Secondary completed and NKTR pockets more than $200M---so maybe that will fund operations until they can get further with their pipeline.

Anyone have thoughts on the Phase 2 Ovarian data seen thus-far? I hope I am wrong but don't see the data being strong enough for a single arm accelerated approval. I was trying to speculate if the company possibly expanded enrollment for another reason (get more data to go into Phase 3, attract a partner) but I think they are really shooting for the accelerated approval. If anyone has links to studies/meta analysis of this patient population would appreciate any links.
