The GOP believes the public hates government regulations on everything except matters and consequences related to the bedroom ( and the kitchen table, floor, back seats of cars, tree houses, airplane restrooms, baseball games...

I'm continually amazed by how the GOP cons it's non-wealthy voters into voting against their economic self-interest, year after year, decade after decade. I'm also flabbergasted by the (D)'s inability to effectively point this out and wake them up.

Might it be that it just doesn't PAY for them to?

One thing Bush was right on was needing immigrants (Mexicans?) to do jobs American's don't want to do. Many Americans prefer the handout, drug culture or deadbeat dad status living in the shadows to working an honest lower end or even blue collar job these days. Not everybody can be an educated engineer, teacher or doctor

I just started getting into Haidt's book reviewed here - Message 28049377 - but it's astounding how much our choices are based heavily on our beliefs and prejudices and not rational calculation, economic or otherwise.

They are evil for me and my family. I don't care if other people eat them, as long as I still have a choice not to. For us they are poison. Literally.

The (R)'s seem to have and use the corporate-funded opinion science to use that. The (D)'s, not so much.

The future will be brutal for you. Scientists are even now figuring out how to grow "beef" in vats, with no bones or organs, and that's just the beginning. Biological, horicultural and genetic tinkering are just in their infancy. In 100 years. people may regard eating natural foods as a primitive, backward, cultish practice.
