What else besides rebar does PLNI make?

Pro Mold, Inc. is a custom plastic injection molder of thermoplastic materials, operating ultra-modern Toshiba and Toyo presses in a thirty thousand square foot facility in St. Louis County. The plant operates around the clock, six days per week, with a single shift on Sunday.

Molding press sizes range from 28 tons up to 500 ton, with shot capacity up to at least fifty-five ounces. Presses are totally integrated closed-loop systems with programmable logic control, allowing consistently tight manufacturing and quality control.

In addition to the normal commodity resins such as ethylene, styrene and polypropylene, they process a wide variety of engineering and filled materials, to include nylon, polycarbonate, acetal, butyrate and copolyesters. Top-of-the-line drying, heating and cooling equipment to ensure material integrity as well as shot-to-shot consistency are part of the systems.

To compliment the molding capabilities they offer sonic welding, heat staking and solvent welding assembly, as well as sub-assembly, shrink-wrap and packaging.

ProMold has complete tooling, design and model making sources for new product development.

That is what they say on the website.

Anything like plastic lumber, signage, and chairs would probably be contracted out to third party contractors. I don't know for sure, but that would be my estimate based upon the size of the machines they have in St Louis.

Any product is possible as long as they own the mold. It is the mold that is the expensive part of the process. I remember pricing one for a tiny head phone type product years ago = $25,000 !! - just for the mold - which may or may not have been correctly designed .... which then might have required a second try.

Generically speaking any product is possible as long as they can market it. It isn't required that they make the item, just that they contract for it and assume the quality liability. Look at the couplers made by PLNI for Clemco Industries.

Are the couplers made out the the patented recycled plastic? ... or are they a complimentary item?

Remembering that there were past issues w/outside vender quality control w/their process ... which, for that reason, thaT work has now been returned to in-house.

The couplers were part of Pro Mold's business base prior to be acquired by PLNI. The last PR I saw indicated a $1M backlog in ProMolds business base for 2006. Remember, the issues of quality have been resolved as far as the rebar products. That is based on the Q1 results of deliveries.

What is plastic wood?

Plastic wood, or recycled plastic lumber, is a wood-like product that is made from recycled plastic that can be used as a substitute for wood or concrete or metal.

What is plastic lumber used for?

At the moment, it’s mostly used for fencing, decking, landscaping and play or recreation equipment.

For example, it’s used to substitute for fencing, flooring, pallets, park benches, piers and roofing shingles.

How is plastic lumber made?

There a number of ways of making plastic wood. Sometimes it’s almost entirely made of polyethylene. Many times it’s mixed with other materials to create a better surface (wood-filed plastic lumber), or to make it stiffer (glass-fiber mixed with plastic). It can also be mixed with rubber, steel and concrete. Each mixture has price or construction advantages and disadvantages.

What are the advantages of plastic wood?

Recycled plastic lumber:
- is made from recycled material and can be recycled at the end of its use.
- lasts longer than wood.
- requires no maintenance.
- resists moisture and chemicals.
- doesn’t splinter or crack.
- is impervious to insects and bacteria.

What about the cost?

Right now, it costs more than wood to purchase, but when you take into account it’s other advantages, such as no maintenance and a longer-life, it can be cheaper than wood. Plus, the price of wood is likely to rise in the future, and the price of recycled plastic lumber is likely to fall.
