Iranian Scientist 'Sought Israel's Annihilation,' Says Widow

Semi-official Iranian news agency interviews widow of Mostafa Roshan – leaving no doubt as to nuclear program's goal.

The wife of Mostafa Ahmadi Roshan, an Iranian nuclear scientist who was assassinated in Tehran in January, said Tuesday that her husband "sought the annihilation of the Zionist regime wholeheartedly," according to Iran's semi-official Fars news agency.

"Mostafa's ultimate goal was the annihilation of Israel," the agency quoted Fatemeh Bolouri Kashani as saying Tuesday.

Bolouri Kashani also underlined that her spouse "loved any resistance figure in his life who was willing to fight the Zionist regime and supported the rights of the oppressed Palestinian nation."

The report belies attempts by Iran to claim that its nuclear program is not military in nature.

Mostafa Ahmadi Roshan is described as "a chemistry professor and a deputy director of commerce at Natanz uranium enrichment facility."

Fars says he was killed by Mossad agents, who used a method of attack similar to that used against Iranian nuclear scientist Massoud Ali Mohammadi in January 2010, as well as scientists Fereidoun Abbassi Davani and Majid Shahriari. Abbasi Davani survived the attack, but Shahriari died. Yet another Iranian scientist, Dariush Rezaeinejad, was assassinated by the same method in July of 2011.

Kenneth, I find it difficult to believe that you do not give a damn. The news update is about your favorite candidate for President of the US. I would think you would be relieved that his adulteress sex tape will not be shared, but concerned or following his felony trial...

For me, he is a reminder of how easily voters will support a sleazy politician...

Obama: Corporate-Welfare Champion by Don Boudreaux on February 17, 2012
in Business as usual, Other People's Money, Politics, Trade

Here’s a letter to the Wall Street Journal:

You report that “President Barack Obama will announce Friday that the Export-Import Bank will match any financing by countries like China to ensure U.S. exporters can compete” (“ Obama to Announce Matched Financing for Exporters,” Feb. 17).

In other words, Barack Obama – champion of the downtrodden – cannot tolerate the downward pressure that imports from China put on the prices that poor Americans pay for retail goods. Barack Obama – slayer of special interests – will force millions of American taxpayers to subsidize overseas sales by a handful of giant corporations. Barack Obama – man of reason – reasons that if Beijing distorts China’s market with subsidies, Washington should equally distort America’s market with subsidies.

No hopeful change here. This policy is nothing more than standard interest-group politics – served up (as such predations always are) with large doses of rank economic nonsense – designed to pick the pockets of the many in order to line the pockets of the few.

It’s disgusting.

“It’s What We Know that Ain’t So….”
by Don Boudreaux on February 20, 2012
in Budget Issues, Current Affairs, Debt and Deficits, History, Myths and Fallacies, What's wrong with the country

Here’s a letter to the New York Times:

Describing “austerity economics” as “the insistence that governments should slash spending even in the face of high unemployment” in the hope that such spending cuts will restore business confidence, Paul Krugman remarks: “If this sounds to you like something Herbert Hoover might have said, you’re right: It does and he did” (“ Pain Without Gain,” Feb. 20).

Easily accessed evidence proves Mr. Krugman wrong.

Here, for example, is economist Steven Horwitz: “the real size of government spending in 1933 was almost double that of 1929. The budget deficits of 1931 and 1932 represented 52.5 percent and 43.3 percent of total federal expenditures. No year between 1933 and 1941 under Roosevelt had a deficit that large.” Also contrary to Mr. Krugman’s claim, Hoover proudly trumpeted his administration’s high-spending and interventionist policies. On the campaign trail in 1932 Hoover bragged that “We might have done nothing. That would have been utter ruin. Instead, we met the situation with proposals to private business and the Congress of the most gigantic program of economic defense and counterattack ever evolved in the history of the Republic.”*

Mr. Krugman’s unfamiliarity with history is disturbing.

Sincerely,
Donald J. Boudreaux

* Steven Horwitz, “ Herbert Hoover: Father of the New Deal,” Cato Institute Briefing Paper, Sept. 29, 2011. The first quotation is on page 4; the second is on page 8.

Here, btw, is Bill Anderson’s take on Krugman’s column du jour.

Oh, and do keep in mind that allegations of European austerity shouldn’t be accepted at face value.

UPDATE: Here’s Steve Horwitz’s own reaction to today’s Krugman column.

edwards once role model of mental retarded kennyboy
Edwards later admitted the child born in February 2008 was his.

The former North Carolina senator is now awaiting trial on federal charges accusing him of secretly accepting more than $900,000 from two wealthy supporters to help cover up his extramarital affair and baby as he sought the nomination in 2008. He has pleaded not guilty.

Andrew Young wrote a 2010 book, "The Politician," about Edwards' affair with Hunter and efforts to keep it from the public eye.

The Youngs admitted no liability as part of the settlement, and the North Carolina judge presiding over the case made no finding regarding liability.

The couple released a statement saying they were "extremely pleased" to have the lawsuit resolved.

Hunter's property, which has been held by the court clerk, is to be returned to her within 30 days. The alleged sex tape also will be destroyed within that time, court records show.

"What she had sought from the outset in this matter is to get back materials that belong to her and to provide protections for her privacy," said Hunter's attorney, Alan Duncan. "She's been able to accomplish that objective."
